Accepted ID for Account Opening

This is where my provisional licence has been accepted:

  • Monzo
  • GOV.UK Verify
  • Lloyds Bank
  • DBS check
  • Life in the UK test
  • Coinbase
  • Current job/former jobs
  • University
  • Purchasing age restricted items

Places that didn’t accept it:
None

I know this is specific to DBS checks but this is probably the best list of all possible IDs and how they compare to other documents: https://www.gov.uk/disclosure-barring-service-check/documents-the-applicant-must-provide-

Right…
I mean my branch turned it down but that probably isn’t representative then!

It is indeed a valid form of ID, but many of us have had trouble using it as such. I regularly have it refused age verification, my bank didn’t accept it as ID, and I once had it refused as ID on a domestic flight. After a borderline argument it was accepted

The government saying it’s valid doesn’t mean much if many institutions either ignore that guidance or their staff aren’t trained on it.

+1 to that!
It really is a growing problem…

I’ve recently gained a new Monzo Account and love it. My partner applied, but has no acceptable form of photo id (Passport/Driving License) and we can’t afford to pay for a passport just to get a bank account. An advisor said they are looking into ways to better support people who don’t drive and don’t want to shell out £100 for a passport they won’t use as they don’t currently support PASS which is a widely accepted form of ID endorsed by the Association of Chief Police Officers.
Can we get traction on this ASAP as there are many who will benefit from a Monzo Account, but fall short of the id requirements.

The other temp alternative is to get a Provisional driving license for £34. But I still agree you shouldn’t have to purchase ID like that just for this use.
