Zopa Bank Chat

Had to change on 11 May

Still showing

My 7.1% interest savings pot ends next month. Reverts to 2.5% afterwards. Do they think I’ll keep my money with them out of fondness for them?

They’re hoping you’ll be apathetic and just keep it there.

That’s the same with everyone that offers an introductory rate. There will always be a certain amount of people that don’t realise or care.

Saw an ad that Zopa are now doing 4% cashback on bills. Too bad I closed my account

It is a bit of a d!ck move considering they’re doing it because of cost of living. Yet us existing customers (who have actually used Zopa) can’t get it

Loyalty doesn’t pay. Remember that.

Oh I know. The only bank I have some slight loyalty towards is Nationwide and Monzo.

But I’m aware these banks would offboard me in an instant and that I get nothing for being part of them (aside from the £100 fairer share).

They are not doing it because of that. Did they actually say that? :man_facepalming:

They are doing it because there is a business reason to do it, nothing more. Same with Nationwide, it’s not a dividend or a share of profit, it’s a retention tool.

I should be used to how much fluff comes out of banks, especially as I’ve spent years contracting for them, but if Zopa really did invoke the cost of living crisis, that takes the biscuit.

You’re so punny. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I could be wrong. I thought I saw something on money saving expert saying they were doing it because of that.

They may have just been saying that this helps with cost of living, rather than Zopa did it specifically cuz of that.

My bad.

That screenshot above said it was for applying through MSE but the Zopa website lists it as a feature

Are credit card repayment direct debits valid for cashback?

Yes they are, at least for the 2% cashback. That has worked for me for the past 2 years, I build up a balance on an interest free credit card then pay of £1,500 at once from zopa to get the full £30 cashback.

Is there a limit to how much cashback you can earn through direct debits? The 4% says up to £2000 worth of payments. Is that the same on 2%?

No, 2% on up to £1,500 of DDs.

Their cashback T&Cs changed fairly recently - it’s now paid on direct debits up to £125 a month over the course of a year rather than in one lump e.g a credit card bill
