XBOX Series X

I use the steel series 7X and haven’t had a single issue however it uses an adaptor to connect.

At first I wasn’t too keen on that idea but I use it for work calls and gaming and it’s just a flawless headset.

Does it not work out better to get a gaming computer rather than an Xbox ?
Also FPS is hands down best with a mouse and keyboard.

I do own an Xbox ONE S and only use it when people come round so we can play multiplayer ( me on the PC and someone else on the xbox )
I also use it for netflix etc and I did used to use it for MKV files but not any more.

But as far as gaming is concerned, PCs can constantly be upgraded every year, with an xbox you are stuck with what you get ?

You can also game at 144hz on a PC which makes a huge difference compared to 60hz. It’s also more satisfying building your own PC rather than just plugging something in, in my opinion

I know GPUs are difficult to get at the moment so I understand that.

Quite clearly not for most people

TLDR:

That gives you a total of £1490 , a whole £1040 more than the Xbox Series X.

And that’s if saving money was the only benefit.

It’s technically cheaper to get an Xbox, like @ravipatel pointed out, you couldn’t build a pc with the same spec as a Series X anywhere near the price.

It also depends on how you like to game and where you like to game, I quite like sitting on the sofa controller in hand raiding with friends on Destiny on the big screen after the kids have gone to bed. For me personally, it’s more laid back, chilled and just more enjoyable. As well as that, we don’t have to have a psace in our house dedicated to an expensive gaming set up.

Also debatable. it’s completely a preference thing, whilst yes you will become far more proficient with a mouse and keyboard the longer you play, that’s only really an issue if as a controller player you play against K&M, I find controller much more enjoyable than K&M. I know I suck with K&M but when i tried it, i really didn’t enjoy it enough for the games I play to put the time and effort in to improve

Even if you could, you probably wouldn’t. Getting a Zen 2 Ryzen with integrated graphics would be easy enough if they were sold to consumers, as is a bunch of RAM and an NVMe SSD. However, you can only buy a quad core Ryzen with Vega graphics as an average consumer, not an 8 core with hyperthreading. You’d need to fit in a separate GPU…but good luck with that at the moment.

However, you would also have to deal with the bloat of Windows (or Linux) and forego the optimisations that developers carry out to make the game work with an integrated GPU.

Someone who wants to game on a PC is probably going to want to lean into it and get something that would wipe the floor with the current generation of consoles…and the next.

Unfortunately, there has been some great games over the years that never made it to PC --Red Dead Redemption, Metal Gear Solid 4, The Darkness etc that I would miss without having at least one console around the place.

Not like I haven’t been impressed for a long time but it really blew me away.

Game pass is just the most incredible thing in the gaming world. The amount of new stuff coming, the breadth of titles etc.

Let us/me know when you’ve caught up. One announcement in particular took my breath away.

Can’t wait to get my Series X this Summer.

Right - this really blew me away. Unbelievably beautiful. Super excited to play.

Extremely excited for Halo, and for lots more tbh.

Anyone who hasn’t played Hades, I cannot recommend it enough. It is one of the best games I’ve ever played and I really do mean that. Everything about it is just so well-done/put together etc. Brilliant.

I might hit you up re Sea of Thieves one day if that’s cool…I tried it a tiny bit at the start but didn’t have anyone to play with.

Looks fantastic. Can’t wait to have a play. Only been 2 days and I’m feeling better and better about my Series S.

Have been on the web beta for a while now, but v excited to test it out with the Series X hardware improvements.

Also just excited to have more cause to use it lol when I’m actually leaving my home a bit more etc. Want to wait and see how often I actually have the time/inclination but am strongly considering getting a Backbone One or Razer Kishi (and I think leaning towards Backbone One from everything I’ve read so far).

Edit to say: obviously interested in thoughts if anyone has experience with/owns one of them!

As a PlayStation person, it’s sentences like these which make me really scratch my head.

What will the next gen be? Xbox Series OneX2?

(I’ll be using the PS6!)

So this is my one concern… and I suppose the second I think they’re never gonna do it, they will actually do it. However, given their reluctance to move to C for so long already, and having had iPads on it for ages, I hope that won’t be happening…

I have a phone grip myself but feel like a dedicated thing would be so much less unwieldy if I were actually to use it quite often. So like I say, will try it out as is for now…but am definitely interested in a proper solution if I do use it a lot.

The Razer Kishi is not great. It’s a co-branded peripheral with GameVice, and it’s definitely more a GameVice device than a Razer one. Buttons are mushy, and the whole thing creaks when gripped. I returned mine within a couple of days.

I think the idea of these controllers is much better than the execution, having tried a few over the years.

Excuse my ignorance but why should one upgrade from an Xbox ONE to the new Series X/ Series S ?

When Forza Horizon 6 comes out. FH5 will be the last version supported on Xbox One.

Well it would probably be on PC too.

This article eludes to the One series not getting FH6 (or any future Forza releases):

It could be guesswork though - ray-tracing will surely be a X/S exclusive and maybe that’ll be the defining point (rather than dropping support for FH6+ entirely on One consoles)

Just vaguely adding onto the above re upgrading…

Game was still offering £110 for the original Xbox One 500GB trade-in about a month ago max. Which is clearly ridiculous and incredible.

Took it into the nearest shop that does trade in for me (Surrey Quays) and was told to come back because I had a white controller battery cover for a black controller. I asked if they could reduce the value by X, but they said absolutely not.

I then go back in to the same shop (after purchasing a black back cover for £1 or so on eBay), by which point the price has dropped to £95. The same person I spoke to a week prior called their manager (I think?) out who then told me that they wouldn’t take it based on individual store policy. They said there was no way to know which store would etc, other than individually ringing around. I also asked how long that had been policy and was told that it had been months at this particular store.

This obviously pissed me off - why was I not told that a week earlier, saving me a lot of hassle and time? If the person would have taken it a week earlier (perhaps not knowing the store policy at the time), why could they not have knocked a few quid off for the most inexpensive ‘issue’ possibile - the battery cover being the wrong colour?

Have loved Game since I first went as a kid obviously, and have wanted to support them as they get killed off by online retail, but really left a sour taste in my mouth.

Long story short (and realise this became a bit of a rant), my Xbox One is now on eBay, and my One S will be going to CEX, who even cash will give me £40 more than Game trade-in, and then I’m gonna buy my Series X, using up my £75 game credit along with what I make from the One and S, and maybe just stop going there :man_shrugging:
