World Mental Health Day

You asked how I know if they are lying. And solid investigations form all departments (medical, welfare etc) end up catching out the liers in the end.

It really doesn’t matter what the situation is in life if you lie you will eventually be found out, solely because it is very hard to keep up a lie.

And remember in my job we work, eat, drink, live and socialise together so we know each other pretty well and can see changes in each other, it’s hard to hide anything and even harder to bull shit each other about things.

I’m fascinated by your observations around people.

Frankly I’m astonished that someone seemingly in a key position to respond to and advise on the mental health of others, displays such a ā€œblack & whiteā€ approach to the intentions of others.

I can see why, for example, a member of the armed forces, feeling vulnerable and in mental ill-health, would possibly keep quiet. The model of care you display seems judgmental in the extreme.

Are you not doing the same now too? You don’t know anything about the guy. What he does on a day-to-day basis or anything about all the help and support the has given to those who genuinely needed it?

You’re right in that he is saying it in black and white… I personally like it when people are frank  We’re not his patients so there is no need for him to be sensitive to us.

Perhaps you’re right and I read too much into the posts…

Thank you. I work in an environment where black and white straight down the middle frank talking works we don’t have time to beat round the Bush. Even the guys and girls with mental health issues don’t want soft talking too most the time I know I didn’t.
Most of us are from tough backgrounds and are rough round the edges (there are of cause exceptions to this) but shouting and swearing and fighting is good stress relief to a lot of us.

How is sorting truth from lies bad in anyway.

There’s no need to further inflame the subject. So I’d suggest you drop it.

Your approach would not be my approach, nor @Demmedelusive’s but it doesn’t necessarily mean you are wrong.

Complete edit was thinking of something else at the time sorry.

It’s just my view though how I see it differs to someone else that’s fine. It doesn’t mean I’m wrong at all.

You’ve had plenty of opportunity (and taken it) to express your opinion.

I think you’re on the wrong thread for the below though?

I was sorry again I edited the above post completely.

However I stand by what I say. Different sorts of people need different approaches that is all.

I’m a squadie that feels most alive when someone is trying to kill me lots of us are like that it excites us. Pussy footing about doesn’t help people like us.

That just sounds like the plot to the next Rambo film to me. I’m picturing him having PTSD in an old folks home.

But I’ve seriously derailed the thread.

Great cause, needs more awareness. Whatever ails you, make sure you talk to someone.

We are a mad old bunch that’s true but it is who we are, I’ve been through PTSD and out the other side. And been back to a combative role. Trust me the most fun you can have with clothes on is getting shot at (adrenalin is a strange old thing, the come down sucks though).

But your right if your in a bad place tell someone. For me other squaddies helped as they knew better than any civilian doc could. Really beer and my mates and getting back to the hard miles helped me.

This seems topical:

I’ve often wondered what happens to a veteran when they are released from active service. How do you adjust to civilian life?

I don’t know I’m yet yo do it.

I’m still serving. Most make the transition fine into civi street many into very good jobs. The military equips us quite well qualification wise especially if your a proactive person and get on courses that benefit you.
I want to do countryside management when I get out on 6 years time so I’ve started do I g courses paid for by the mitary to do with it. I’ve also made contacts and do some voluntary work with forestry and the likes.
I’ve also gained sports coaching courses, and adventure training qualifications, I’m a swimming instructor and pool lifeguard all free through the army.
I think I should be fine and there is loads of mates groups and ex service groups out there too.
