I’m not surprised this story has been picked up by the national news. Not only because shameless grifters deserve to be called out, but also because this sort of this is exactly in line with the yearly “Winter Wonderland not so wonderful” stories that always appear without fail.

They weren’t ‘allowed’ to use the name. It seems to be completely unlicensed and no doubt following the tactic of “they won’t find out until it is over and can sue us afterwards if they’re that bothered”. See also: all the shitty unlicensed Disney Princess parties. Can pretty much guarantee that if the Dahl estate had known ahead of time they would absolutely have shut this shit down.

(How did they get away with it legally? They didn’t call it a Willy Wonka Experience, it was Willy’s Chocolate Experience. And they put a disclaimer saying “This experience is in no way related to the Wonka franchise, which is owned by the Warner Bros. company.” The fact the public think it’s a Willy Wonka Experience is completely unexpected and out of their control! )

I don’t believe that would have been much of a defence.

One of the actors who had been hired (but not paid) was on TV showing how rubbish their costume was.

“And what costume is this?”

“It’s an Oompa Loompa.”

But, yes, this

What I don’t understand is why people bought tickets for it in the first place, looking at the website all the imagery is AI generated with spelling mistakes all over the place and there’s no actual images of what the ‘experience’ will be like.

The only thing I can think of is a lot of sales came through adverts on Facebook, people rarely visits websites anymore.

Never underestimate the desperation of parents trying to keep children entertained. It shouldn’t be the case that their critical thinking goes out of the window as a result, but unfortunately it does happen.

I mean, there has probably been worse experience event/days on the apprentice over the years.

Even for channel 5 this is desperate

People watch these shows though. Wouldn’t call that desperate, it’s just a business move that will likely bring in the eyeballs. It’s why they are doing so many air frier shows - people watch them.

What… is this?!

Fully expecting it to have a lower budget than the event itself did.

At least it’s a change from yet another show about air fryers.

Do they really have that many shows about air fryers?
