This happens to be genuine but if there was ever an argument for banks never texting customers, itâs this. Would be so easy to spoof, and is utterly unacceptable.
I didnât want to get involved in the argument about who is to blame when a customer is (de)frauded, but frankly until banks (and other organisations) stop with their shoddy security practices that effectively train customers to fall for fraud, I have little sympathy with their position.
Agreed. Iâve been wondering why Iâd heard absolutely not a peep about the switch I initiated on 19th October for Ulsterâs switch bonus, so when I received this text out of the blue it wasnât a surprise. Disappointing, sadly, but not a surprise.
Iâm very savvy about phishing scams, but even I had to do some mental acrobatics to work out how to access the chat service without actually clicking the link. But imagine someone less cluedâup thinking âwhat switch?â then panicking that their bank account is about to be transferred to Ulster (because thatâs what it says in the header, even though thatâs easily spoofed, and iOS will thread spoofed texts underneath genuine ones). Within a couple of minutes youâd be blithely giving over your account details to the scammer.
In the event, I messaged through the app just after the text was received, and heard nothing until 20:15 when an automated chat message told me the office was now closed. So a massive Northern Irish Fail all round, really.
I received a similar text from RBS when I was switching in to them in September. I used the chat feature and messaged with a colleague who couldnât find any problem with the switch. So I called CS and they too couldnât find a problem with the switch. So why did I receive the the text? No one knowsâŚ
Counterintuitive, but it might be quicker to call than wait for responses on the chat feature. I donât have anything positive to say about the RBS chat agents and suspect theyâre the same as Ulster .
The whole group really ought to do better than this. I had a similar experience with NatWest.
For me, they needed me to confirm the last four digits of my card number, in order for me to give my permission to carry out the switch.
But I didnât know this until I began to engage with the chat. I engaged in a secure way (through the app, not via the URL) but the point is texting out a random link is rubbish security.
No idea where my NatWest switch is at, if theyâve got my application proof or anything.
Great service.
I see The Co-operative Bank has added a referral incentive, so have added that to the wiki.
Anyone with coop to refer?
Is there a limit to how many times you can refer?
My understanding is that only one ÂŁ125 can be earnt on the original account but each friend referred gets ÂŁ125
No limit!
Ideally then if thereâs a chain of referral and referee then thatâs ÂŁ250?
Once for being invited and another for inviting?
I will if itâs still available on the 16th December when hopefully TSB payout

Natwest ends today. You have until 17:00
For those that have gone through the Natwest process, how/when do they notify you? I ended up doing my ID in a branch last Thurs, I got another email from them on Friday about doing it online, but obviously they wouldnât have got/processed my details by then.
Am I just going to have to wait and see if I get a letter through the snail mail?
Thank you!
The ones further up, how long after you did the doc upload did you start to get messages?
Although thinking about it, the whole reason I didnât get the docs upload part is because I think I got my mobile number wrong on the application, so I probably wonât get any text updates at any point
I initiated a switch into Ulster (part of NatWest) the day before that bankâs deadline. Heard nothing for two weeks before suddenly getting that random phishingâesque text asking me to make contact to clarify once piece of info.
Having done that (through the app to be secure) I received a text the next day saying the switch is initiated.
Iâll be making sure they pay the incentive, as the delay was on their part.
Letter from Natwest and I needed to sign a box
Maybe because I did part online and part in branch, there is there requirement for a signature?
Not sure. But anyway, looks like theyâve at least got my application from the branch.
Any referral links for the coop switch?
Also, any terms of the switch (CBA to scroll)
Just read the terms of it, just need account number and sort code, along with full name of the referrer.
