Hey all, thanks for the feedback. We know iOS offers more search options than Android, but we haven’t prioritised it we didn’t hear many requests for it whilst building the big list, we don’t see high usage of what is currently on offer, and the iOS implementation is a bit overly complicated and error prone.
We know search could be improved on both platforms, but it probably needs more thought than just bringing what’s in iOS to Android. Right now we’ve decided to prioritise the things we heard most when asking people what was preventing people from using Monzo as their main account (joint accounts, international transfers, better Direct Debits and Standing Orders, etc).
I think what has happened here is the wording that was optimised for brevity has been taken to mean more than ‘the main features missing from android have now been added’ , which is something we will improve on. As Simon said, whilst we strive for both platforms to fulfil the same needs, they won’t always offer exactly the same functionality.
Sorry our choice of words has caused frustrations.
To be fair, that’s probably because you can’t do much with it in it’s current form (compared to iOS) so it’s just easier to not use it, and instead find transactions by scrolling the feed or via transaction detail screens. Even then, searching on Android is still a relatively new addition.
It would be a really nice gesture if you released the new and improved or next iteration of the search functionality on Android first (and )
I don’t think people realise it will search more than it seems, so I can type a category, location or a date (4 July 2017 or December) and those searches do work.
That’s true. I think people can be forgiven for not knowing about this, since it’s not obvious and (to my knowledge) hasn’t been written about or marketed. It still seems fairly basic though, and just searches text found in the transaction details.
Due to this, it sometimes throws up odd things. For example, if I search for “Finance” (the category), it includes my Specsavers Direct Debit despite it being in the Bills category. I presume this is because the merchant name is officially “Specsavers Finance” - but only “Specsavers” is shown in the app (the “finance” bit isn’t displayed anywhere).
I can’t get it to work on an exact date either, but months/years are fine. You also can’t seem to combine things, e.g. “Holidays 2017” shows no results, but separately, there are many transactions under “Holidays” and “2017”.
Yup, certainly not obvious, I switched from iOS to Android not long ago, and when I tap search it looked to me like I can only search for things by feed item name, so I didn’t use it and went straight to scrolling back through the feed to find what I was looking for, in this case all my transactions from my holiday in Greece and Italy.
There will always be a difference between iOS and Android… their completely different systems. I’ve had apps better on droid than iOS and other way round. I’m sure Monzo is damned if it does and damned if it doesn’t.
But I’m just saying well done Monzo your efforts are appreciated, keep up the good work🤗
Thanks for this @Jami appreciate that Monzo is taking note. But just wanted to say it’s not just search though for Android app to be equal to iOS at least bring in full fingerprint support (missing for PIN) have a Android Widget and have help section improve among other things.
No one is asking for absolute parity and if Monzo had not said it has doneAndroid app = iOS this thread would not have been started.
Appreciate this a lot but fact is on Big List blog it still says Bring Android fully up to speed with iOS is done and tweets from Monzo still feel bit odd.
I’ll take some responsibility for this, too. “Android = iOS” clearly isn’t a 100% accurate description of the situation, and we could have worded it differently. (We’re literally pushed to the character limit on the update tweets, but I’ll be more aware of it in future!)
I have an Android phone but use the Monzo app on my iPad at home so have seen both interfaces. The smooth way to switch between accounts within the app is so much better in iOS than Android. Surprised no one has mentioned this already. For this feature difference alone, there isn’t parity between the apps.
As I mentioned, I don’t think we should include labs given they are in there for testing The feature will gradually be supported across both platforms and then come out of labs.
I think this is at parity? Sure, there are bugs on both of them and they work in different ways but I’d say they are broadly the same.
That redirects to the forum if I remember correctly?
Again, I think this is broadly the same on both platforms. What do you feel is different?
Interesting - thanks! What options is iOS missing?
