Why did you choose Monzo?

Is it your main bank and is the fact it’s online and modern affect your decision?

It’s online and modern. That affected my decision.

Overall they just do everything right.

The app is really clean, and modern, and everything can be achieved in just a few taps.

The Hot Coral card is really nice, and doesn’t have an annoying signature strip

It’s all digital, and the signup was incredibly easy, as is logging into a new device

They have plenty of features that my old bank didn’t have.

Also, I’ve never had an issue with their support. I’ve never had a bad experience with them, which can’t be said for some other banks.

So overall, they’re just really good.

Also being able to keep a little but of money in an Instant Access Saver is pretty nice, even if the rate isn’t as good as elsewhere.

We haven’t had this thread in a while.

It’s not online. It’s app only.

Try using the app when you’re not online.

Originally I liked the older app design and everything else everyone loved about Monzo in 2020, now I don’t use it other than occasional flex purchase and I like the mortgage tracker.

Just when we thought this thread couldn’t be any more ridiculous :face_with_peeking_eye:

How is a signature strip annoying?

It’s not.

Ok. Let’s descend into chaos. The signature strip and the magnetic stripe are two separate things.

Lmao my bad, only half paying attention.

Yeah. I don’t mind the magstripe strip. It’s the signature strip that isn’t necessary in 2024, and thankfully Monzo has got rid of it

That’s a half more than you should be.

Yeah the signature strip isn’t really a problem for me, I don’t sign them anyway.

They do look better without it though.

Neither

Starling even say on their website that there’s no requirement to sign the card, although you can if you want.

Absolutely.

And the amount of places that do chip and signature payments must be so small these days anyways that it doesn’t make a difference.

That’s a rather bizarre reason to choose Monzo.

In 2017 yeah. The reasons why I joined were:

  • The fact your balance updated instantly (which was rare at the time)
  • Logging into the app without feeling like you’re going through security at an airport
  • Fee-free spending abroad
  • The referral bonuses at the time.

I now spend using credit cards and save elsewhere, but Monzo is still at the centre of my financial life. Honestly the only things I care about are the joint account and being able to assign direct debits to pots now. I don’t really use any other features.

Things I’d miss if I left Monzo. Flex card (yes I know there are alternatives). Real time banking (no overnight processing),get paid early. Perks goodies, especially the Network railcard.Things needing improvement;definitely response times. This is anecdotal because I haven’t needed to contact Monzo for 2/3 years. So for me after 6 years the perceived plus points far outweigh the negatives. I do have a legacy account but Monzo is and always has been my main bank.

I’ve closed roughly 7 Monzo accounts and for some reason I do keep coming back even if it is just for using for spending.

I much preferred the app when it was the carousel and like many others I enjoyed the instant notifications back then as I can’t mind if any other bank had them.

One point I had everything in Monzo, savings, joint account etc.

But there is just that little bit of trust issues I have at the back of my mind. No idea what it is , maybe because I’ve been locked out my account before or a bad support experience, I’m not sure but I just always have the fear having a decent chunk of money in Monzo.

I just like the idea of being able to go to an actual branch and talk to someone face to face if things went all tits up. That’s the reason why Monzo isn’t my main account anymore.
