has anyone used a google hub before and if so what are they like?
I havenāt used Google Hub but I do have an Amazon Echo Show in the Kitchen.
I particularly like having the screen in this room so I can see timers instead of relying on audio for the timers.
Also like having video news instead of audio news.
I have 2 x Alexa but I find them letās say basic so if Google Home Mini is good then I will get the Hub.
Yep. I have the Home Hub in my Kitchen, Home Max in my Living Room, and then various Homeās and Miniās dotted around the rest of the place.
Home Hub is fantastic for the Kitchen, because when youāre cooking etc you can set your timers and see a visual of them, pull up recipes or instructional videos etc. I also have a few video news digests on it which I like to catch up when Iām eating or cleaning up in there etc.
Basically what @o99 said, but with Google!
Did you try Alexa I canāt remember?
Iāve used both. I use Alexa devices at the moment but actually prefer Google Home. There are probably several significant differences between the two platforms, but for me the two things I preferred about the Google devices were 1) Google Assistant seems seems better than Alexa at interpreting nuances of human speech and 2) they double as Chromecast speakers.
Reason I currently use Alexa devices is because Alexa integrates with Sonos which Google does not (yet) and I wanted to try out its integration with Ring (which Iāve ended up not really making use of).
Absolutely this. Also worth pointing out that Alexa really struggles compared to Google when it comes to different accents.
I found that with Alexa you still have to modify the way you speak when you want it to do something in sort of an over-enunciated unnatural way. Google doesnāt have a problem with this.
Alexa has no issues understanding a 3 year old though ![]()
