What's the Last Bit of Tech You Bought?

Ok this is a bit of an odd one, but stay with me… I’ve been searching for a new kettle for months now - I am very particular about my kettles, because I am very particular about my tea… I spent around £100 on the last one around a year ago, only to find that due to poor design it leaks every time I fill a cup. I’ve had an incredibly difficult time trying to find something better, which meets all my requirements:

  1. Adjustable temperature (important for many of my teas)
  2. Quiet (I work in an office with ~20 others)
  3. Small (I don’t want it dominating my desk)
  4. Glass (I like glass)
  5. ‘Keep Warm’ feature (for when I want it to hold the right temperature while I get lunch or something)

There are many kettles that fill most of those requirements, but it is oddly difficult to find one that fills all of them. But on my most recent reddit rabbit-hole search I came across an unusual contender: this baby bottle warmer aimed at new parents which surprisingly has all the features I want. I had it delivered yesterday and have been happily using it to make tea all day. My only one complaint is the beeping - it beeps every time you press a button, and there is no way to turn the beeping off (which seems odd for a device which says “totally silent - can be used in a room with a sleeping baby” on the box…). Turning it on and setting it to 90 C comes with no fewer than ten beeps, which is frankly ridiculous. I’ve already ordered the specific screwdriver I need to open the base and disconnect the piezo-electric beeper.
