I had forgotten about this.
Added Dreaming (languages app) and KwizIQ (grammar app for French) to my subscriptions… what a long list.
I probably won’t renew Skritter because I don’t actually need to write Chinese anymore and I probably won’t learn to write Japanese with it either.
Legentibus might not see a renewal next year either (as much as I love Latin, it’s just not practically useful compared to French/Spanish/Chinese/Japanese).
How much are you paying for Sky with all of those streaming services bundled?
£55
Sky Signature
Sky Cinema
Sky Multiroom
Sky HD (No idea why they still charge for this)
Sky 3D (Didn’t even know that was still a thing)
See It First (Whatever that is)
All the stuff just comes with it now though but to get Paramount+ you have to have the Sky Cinema
I’m currently in the UK but travel to Japan often.
Current subscriptions:
-
iCloud 2TB - £8.99 p/m (UK subscription) - because I apparently need to preserve every photo I’ve ever taken.
-
Apple Music - £10.99 p/m (UK subscription) - because however much I try to stop using it, I still use it.
-
LINE Premium with Netflix (ad-supported) - £5.99 p/m (Japan subscription) - because LINE basically runs Japan and my partner and her family use it.
-
FotMob - £0.64 p/m (UK subscription) - because unlike the BBC Sport app, it actually tells me things I want to know.
-
YouTube Premium - £6.14 p/m (Japanese subscription) - somehow still works in the UK and is suspiciously cheap.
-
Amazon Prime UK - £8.99 p/m (UK subscription) - because, well, it’s Amazon and I’m addicted. Sometimes I let it lapse to prove I’m still in control. I’m not.
-
Amazon Prime JP - £2.82 p/m (Japanese subscription) - because, again, its really cheap compared to the UK so the addiction has gone international. Japan-specific unfortunately.
-
ChatGPT Plus - £18.32 p/m (USA subscription) - because I use it for work and poor life choices.
-
Monzo Perks - £7 p/m (UK subscription) - because I wanted the railcard and accidentally convinced myself the rest was useful. I do use the Uber One discount sometimes.
Temporary subscriptions:
- Flighty - £4.99 p/w (UK subscription) - only while travelling, but genuinely brilliant for gate changes and potential airline chaos.
You should buy your train ticks via the Uber app. You get 10% back in Uber credit with Uber One that can be put towards your future train journeys. You also earn Avios.
For me, this benefit alone more than covers the cost of Perks for me.
Does Uber do split ticketing and digital wallet based mobile tickets yet? Before I remember making PDFs bigger and I got tired of that very quickly.
It’s not 2014 anymore that we’d print off boarding passes etc in case the 3/4G wasn’t stable.
Apple Wallet is supported and as a bonus they do actually set the tickets to expire properly unlike with some other TOCs and ticket sellers so you don’t end up with loads of tickets cluttering your Wallet.
I don’t know about split ticketing as I vary rarely need it, but whenever I’ve needed a split in the past I’ve just done the research on a service that supports it and then bought the ticket myself.
Guess they’ve kept working on that feature! I will keep using Trainline regardless when I’m back in UK to avoid giving money to American megacorps.
