What films do you recommend?

Under Paris - absolutely shocking movie.

Probs why I couldn’t sleep last night it was so terrible.

Are sharks that smart? :grimacing:

I usually don’t mind them but I just couldn’t with this.

Certainly had its moments!

Sharknado with a Netflix budget

Was meant to have seen this between xmas and new year, but the cinema near me was full for majority of the screenings!

For my money, it’s been a relatively poor year for movies.

Anora was my best movie and The Wild Robot was my favourite. Honorable mention to Challengers.

Dune 2 was the most spectacular (in IMAX), but fairly middle of the road overall.

I had the Odeon membership for a few months l̶a̶s̶t̶ y̶e̶a̶r̶ in 2023 when there was a decent run of releases

Cancelled it at the start of t̶h̶i̶s̶ y̶e̶a̶r̶ 2024 as there was barely anything to warrant the membership, was cheaper to just see the odd movie on its own.

Anatomy of a Fall was probably my standout film last year.

My first film this year is likely to be an old ‘un

  • Mulholland Drive.

I get enough use overall as we also go regualrly for kids movies. But for prestige cinema you’re definitely not going to get your money’s worth.

I really didn’t gel with this one. Just found it a chore to get through.

Forgot to mention The Holdovers, which I’d actually put above Challengers.

It’s travesty that it was released in Jan and not Dec :person_facepalming:.

Rewatched it with the Mrs over the holidays and it totally stands up as one of the all-time Christmas movies. Just perfect.

Heretic

Hugh Grant excels here, I’m only part way through but I’m actually quite enjoying it.

Does anyone know, if I pre book odeon tickets for a later date; can I collect the tickets tomorrow physically and keep them until release date of the film? Or can I only collect them on the day?

Odeon tends to send a QR code to your phone nowadays. No ticket required.

It would be a gift as such, so no use on my device.

In short; I want the physical tickets, assuming I’d be best just going in and getting them.

You can probably print out the QR code.

I don’t think they do tickets unless you go there to buy them.

I’m going into Liverpool tomorrow anyway so will ask.

Definitely watching Kraven for the plot.

The plot:

Most likely second place to Taron Egerton should he not be available on our wedding day.

I saw A Complete Unknown (I keep wanting to call it No Direction Home for some reason) and loved it.

For context, I’ve been an aficionado of Dylan’s music for forty years and so was vaguely aware of the story, but but the film is so well written (and I know it’s not strictly accurate) and was unexpectedly very emotional in places.

It would be a different experience if you don’t already know the music, I guess. A lot of the songs featured aren’t all that well known, I guess.

OK. Might as well have a poll. One of the songs heavily featured is Girl From The North Country. Who knows it?

  • I know the song
  • I’ve heard of it
  • I’ve never heard of it.

PS The guy who plays Pete Seeger does a pretty perfect impersonation.

Gladiator 2.

I’ve seen a few boring af films in my time but this sits up near the top

Probably one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever seen, made worse by the fact it’s a sequel to a stone-cold classic.

I mean - why didn’t the water leak out the arena?

And the shaved monkeys…

There’s more but it’s too annoying to think about.

The first time I tried to watch it I turned it off, but this evening I had literally nothing else so that was what I got.
