Just got a 4 month subscription to Mubi for £4 and intend to watch a lot during those 4 months .
First movie I watched, last night, was Close (Lukas Dhont) which I absolutely recommend. But I chose it for some apparent similarities in the trailer with Tomboy (Céline Sciamma), one of my favourite movies of all time.
Zoé Héran has done quite a bit since Tomboy. I was lucky enough to meet her a few years ago at the avant-première of a short she starred in which I helped to crowdfund (Fruit Défendu).
Across the Spidervserse was absolutely spectacular.
Went back to watch it two days later in IMAX and it really benefited from the second viewing with the sheer number of background details and Easter eggs.
The sheer imagination and creativity on display is simply breathtaking. It makes you realise how stale the MCU is and constrained by its format. It effortlessly blends art styles to amazing effect and gives every world so much unique character.
I genuinely think it’s an Empire Strikes Back level sequel.
Went to see “Reality” earlier this week. A fascinating film 84 minutes long. Very relevant given the news this week about Trump’s indictment for illegal retention of classified government documents…
Not sure if this is allowed but it’s on the topic of films I guess.
I’ve got 2 free cinema tickets for odeon cinemas. The codes expire in 12 days but I assume you can book for dates past that.
Theirs no odeon near me so they won’t get used. I got given them from Uber for being a loyal UberOne member apparently.
If you want them just say, don’t want anything for them.
Can’t really present any spoilers here as it’s obvious what happens, but:
It’s long
It’s mostly a courtroom environment drama
It’s spectacular in visuals (Los Alamos looks incredible)
CillianM deserves the best actor Oscar
Robert Downey Jr deserves the best supporting actor Oscar
In fact, everyone else (esp. Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Kenneth Branagh) deserves said previous award
Christopher Nolan deserves any Oscar
My personal take, which is subjective:
It’s long
The first third is too long
The middle section is astonishing
The last third is too long
The sheer ambition & vision of this movie is on another level
Would I recommend it? Yes, but not to everyone. It’s an intelligent movie with a lot of involved characters and one I’d have to watch again to understand how they all fit together.
