I’m not really a fan of the spend today total. Not really sure what purpose it serves. If I have 3 direct debits come out totalling £100 and I spend £1.39 on an Aero Mcflurry, what’s the point in telling me I’ve spent £101.39 today? I can’t control 99% of the amount spent.
Even if I don’t have direct debits come out but I buy some lunch, a 4 pack of Whispas and a 2nd class stamp. Again what’s the benefit of knowing that I’ve spent £7.63?
What I think would be more useful is if I get a nudge saying “you are nearly over your eating out budget” etc etc.
That makes sense. But could this not be done better? I presume there was a reason you bought some of those things. Would a more specific warning of some description not be better? I’m trying to think outside the box here.
If for example you’ve gone on a spending spree and spent loads in various clothes shops, is there a better way to manage that? I suppose this is where having spending pots or rules for certain types of transactions may come in. Or an improved budgeting/summary functionality.
I just think that a total spent today doesn’t give the full picture.
Yeah in most cases it was when on a day out shopping or a weekend away with my son. I just don’t want to have to manually set up something, because I know I wouldn’t, that’s why I like the what you’ve spent feature.
Hi all, is there any way of setting a quiet time for alerts, I had 2 payment alerts last night, one at 1am and the other at 3.30am and both sent audible alarms as that is how I have it set for daytime alerts, but there should be a night time settings too so that it doesn’t wake everyone ?
Yes but my phone only has ‘do not disturb’ setting stops all alerts which also includes ringtones etc and I’m afraid to turn this on just incase I miss an emergency call etc
You can add contacts to an exempt list so they will ring regardless.
There are also other settings so for example 3 consecutive rings will disable do not disturb Have a dig through the settings on your device and take a look.
@TaffyApple, you can specifically disable notification sounds by app on iOS in Settings > Notifications > Monzo > Sounds but this would disable them permanently rather than just at nighttime.
An option if you don’t really need to hear each time a transaction goes through?
For me I know that my monthly buget averages out to around £15 per day so having the app keep track of the daily spend fingure is really usefull. Yes there are days that have direct debts and standing orders etc. come out but these tend to be only a couple of days per month so it’s not a big deal, for the other 28 days or so the figure is accurate.
There are also options in the new iOS updates (since iOS 12) for you to select different “DND” options. This way you can silence a specific app or location/hour etc
Edit: so that way you don’t need to DND the whole phone (including phone calls, iMessages etc)
@bruno I have made a quick mock-up. I think a floating area with all account details would be a good idea, and as you go through the feed it disappears so you can see all your transactions. In order to get to other cards & accounts, you’d swipe left and again, if you moved the feed the floating area would move up out of the way still partially visible.
For me; A pot it not an account and should not be confused by being given the same level as one. I get that transferring from the main balance to a pot is different from transferring from this account to a joint one. As it should be.
Given that many people have 5+ pots and that could be the same within a joint account + other accounts if you do not keep the hierarchy idea then getting from one to the next could get frustrating.
