We're working on a new look for the Monzo app

OMG - so it does!

Oh I know, happy to help improve it

Version 2.45.0, iOS

Some bugs (may have been reported earlier):

  • Pots total amount incorrectly displayed
  • switching between personal and joint accounts does not change the total amount at the top of the screen (if it has been dragged to the top). Similarly the photo doesn’t change.

Other updates that would be helpful:

  • The ‘Left to spend’ widget is useful, however the iOS version does not seem to have a RAG status? Its quite easy to miss considering it’s quite a light shade of grey.

  • Updates (e.g the EAT offer) still show up in the main account page. My understanding was that this would either be shown in a carousel at the top or the new notifications section (bell icon?)

  • Would be good to have another account switcher option. I am aware of the hard press on the bottom tab, but it may not be apparent to everyone. I like some of the design options shown above with multiple cards that can be swiped right/left.

  • without the pulse graph, missing the ability to see a ‘moving balance’ view - e.g what was my balance at the end of the month? Need to find a way to show this (probably below the transaction feed? Or in the summary section somehow)

Overall, very happy with the design - the right steps forward👍

So on :green_apple: iOS 2.45 loving the Left to spend, but needs a RAG rating as a simple reference, also when you do tap through to summary, it’s super buggy, makes the app fall over and will only work after a forced quit to cleanse the app.

Hi, I am on iOS 2.45 but I don’t have a “left to spend” and instead it tells me the percentage of budget I have already spent. Are you on another version (TestFlight?) maybe?

It doesn’t if you have no budget set, not for me at least (on iOS).

Agreed, the RAG is crucial.

It’s still there on the actual summary view but needs to be on the ‘left to spend’ widget on the home screen too.

Not to be pedantic but “left to spend” is different to % of budget spent.

So for an example my budget is £530 - it would be difficult for me to work out 45% of £530 in my head. It’d be much more simple if it just said £238 left to spend. As opposed to 45% of your £530 budget had been spent.

I think I have messed up the numbers which kind of makes my point that % are hard!!!

Yeah hopefully they will add something in settings that let you switch between the two - I would suggest the number is default though

After having the TestFlight version for a while now and having a play with it I’m not sure I’m a fan.

Everything seems kinda hidden and in places that are hard to click, eg “View all” for pots is in the top right corner, making it such a stretch to actually click. The fact that payments is easier to click than being able to see all my money in my amount seems to be moving away from money management. I also rarely go into the payments tab as well so not sure why that’s take president over anything else at the bottom.

Minus all the bugs etc I don’t think this new look is an improvement and still requires A LOT of work. I use to go into Monzo multiple times each day but now I’m going in less because I’m not getting the instant answers/information that I previously got in just a few easy clicks. It’s also just feels less special than any other banking app in this current view.

I’m thinking about asking to be switched back, whilst I like and welcome change I think Monzo are way to early with this new look. And if I do switch back I’ll be praying that what they do next is a hell of a lot better before they release is automatically to everyone.

Seems my overdraft option has disappeared, can’t find it at the moment, has it moved (was on the view all) but nothing there at the moment.

Ignore that, now sits under borrowing

It’s still not obvious when transferring from pots that the monetary amount is adjustable other than by using the - and + keys.

Hey @bruno is tonights Open Office going to be about this and will we find out more of the thinking/sneak peaks?

Second this and something i found annoying on the old app. I have to get a calculator out to add up my 10 scheduled payments and deduct from my balance to see if I have enough or need to activate overdraft

Maybe it’s just me, but the account tab is the one I basically live in to move money around my pots when something I have budgeted for comes up, definitely need that within easy reach of the homescreen. Is it under payments?

Can’t shout any louder about this. Monzo Summary is the only thing stopping me from swapping to Starling (other than the uglier card) - I really hope this summary is kept as a tab or in a significant way. Budgeting should be a core feature of Monzo. Really disappointed to hear that devs are considering otherwise.

Also personally I really dislike the ‘all white’ styling  I know it won’t happen, but keeping a ‘monzo legacy’ app that isn’t updated would be really appreciated.
