Why would you like to hide the budgeting widget from the Home Screen? When do you usually look at it (if at all)?
Thanks and also to @adinus re the %/£. Guess I misunderstood Bruno’s posts earlier.
Although with regards to the way the budget bars fill, I don’t think it’s right still? If you look at the main page, they all deplete as you spend.
Not sure I understand this “they all deplete as you spend”, what’s the expected behaviour here?
Btw we haven’t changed anything in the Summary screen yet, just moved it around.
No yeah you’re right, I thought that it “grew” in the previous look but I could be wrong, my memory is terrible.
I kinda like that the budget “fills-up” as opposed to depletes because it is saying how much you have “used” of your budget, not how much you have left.
However, if left to spend comes in, then naturally may need to deplete.
Any idea when the new look will become a lab switch?
Sorry this was in reply to his reply to my earlier post a few minutes ago.
My home screen bar is what I think is incorrect. It says I’ve spent 66% but is still 66% full.
Edit: just to clarify, I have spent 66%. So the figure is right but I don’t feel the bar behaviour is.
I’ve been using Summary since using Monzo last year and:
- the bars deplete in proportion to the amount you’ve spent
- the vertical bars shift from right to left depending on how long you’ve left in your budgeting period
(At least on Android)
Just downloaded the new TF version…
Regarding the Summary bar, I use Summery so I am happy I have a way to view it… however I do tend to agree with others… There needs to be a cleaner less “in your face” way of accessing Summary…
I definitely think Summery needs to stay but agree there needs to be a way to hide the bar and an alternative way to access it
Keep up the amazing work!
Pretty much. To clarify, I love having the feed as my go to view now. It’s much preferable having all the important stuff in one place, instead of having Summary as my effective ‘home’ (in my mind, and the first place I go when I open the app), I have the feed as the new home for me which makes a lot more sense.
However, the way summary works has changed the way I look at money, and this means by far the most important figure to me is the left to spend figure. When I got to my ‘home’ view, I expect to see this figure as the biggest and most important figure, which is home im used to it working on my old ‘home’ screen (summary). So now I go and look at the big figure and go OH YAY I have more money available that I thought! However that’s not the case, I’m just looking at the wrong figure so then have to go hunting for the small ‘left to spend’ figure on the widget.
So yeah, it’s negatively impacting the way I look at my left to spend money in this new way.
Thanks for the feedback @nickh! This is interesting, mind if I ask some probing questions?
- Is Monzo your primary account? Is it where you get your salary?
- Do you have any direct debits set up on Monzo?
- Do you use a different budgeting app/method?
- Is there any other number / piece of info you’d like to see in Home?
Feel free to reply via DM
I use summary but never really took much notice of the bars! It does make more sense for them to deplete. My memory is just woeful.
I would still say that with the new look, the bar is better filling up as you go as opposed to reducing.
Personally I use the budgeting widget a lot and would not remove it - however it seems several forum members have posted that they do not like seeing the ‘left to spend’ bar, so an option to remove it in settings would possibly a way around this for them.
Just updated to 2.45.0. Loving the new look - nice work team!
A few small pieces of feedback on things which I thought worth reporting below. For context, I have a personal account and a joint account, both of which I use regularly, so some of my issues are specific to that use case (moving between accounts).
1) Slightly unintuitive scrolling behaviour on home screen
I have summary/budget at the bottom, I swipe up to “peek” my transactions - nice
I then try and scroll through my transactions but instead, it expands to full screen and stops, if I then lift my finger and try again I can scroll through my transactions, but it adds a step which feels a little jarring?
2) Crashing intermittently
I haven’t quite figured out what triggers this, but the app has crashed a few times this morning. Wondering if others are finding the same or have noticed any patterns?
3) When switching accounts, balance/account name don’t update in “full screen” transaction mode
If I expand the transaction list to full screen, then switch account to/from our joint account, the balance and account description at the top don’t update, which is fairly confusing. Once I collapse the transaction list, I can see the correct account balance and description however (and if I open the transaction list back up, it’s correct).
FWIW - I think I’d almost prefer to just have the initial view or the expanded view and forget the middle stage altogether? Just my 2c though!
4) Account page/settings is a bit confusing - doesn’t indicate which account I’m using
When I open my account (top left user icon) and/or settings (once in that view), there’s no reference to “Joint Account” or “Personal Account”.
My personal details are displayed (as a user of Monzo, kind of makes sense) but the bank details displayed seem stuck on my Joint Account and don’t seem to change if I switch accounts on the home screen?
Knowing which account I’m viewing account details for/changing settings for is pretty important to me. Any thoughts on what’s going on here - am I misunderstanding how this is meant to work or is this just a bug?
I find summary mostly useless, as I put the majority of my spending on my Amex, for cashback. This makes summary/left to spend hilariously inaccurate.
Unlikely to happen.
The reason why we chose not to use Labs is because we need to monitor user behaviour on the new navigation vs standard app. If it’s in Labs it would be impossible to track long term usage. For example we have given the new navigation to a small number of new customers without them being aware they’re on a different version of the app.
As we settle on a direction for the navigation we’d roll it out to everyone progressively. As we move forward we might choose to isolate specific components of the app for a Labs rollout. For instance a new budgeting method (no plans for this now).
Hey @Bruno
I’ve now got summary back which is great! I really like the summary bar - although echo I’d rather it tell me how much £s I have left to spend rather than a % of what is left in my budget - could this be a toggle? You can choose between £s or %?
[] TestFlight v 2.45.0 - I’m experiencing some crashing when I click into summary and one thing I have noticed is, when I try and edit my budget, when I click the + or - buttons on the specific category, it resets/moves the screen up and down, every time I click.
EDIT: Just a few thoughts:
Could a new button be placed next to the bell - a spanner perhaps that deals with the “settings” of Monzo (which you currently have to click your profile picture and then “settings” to get to); and
Having the card be clickable to change accounts? Not sure if this would work but just a thought.
Personally, I don’t use the budgeting tools inside the Monzo app at all, despite it being my primary account. This is because most/all my spending is put through an Amex card for the lovely, lovely points.
I therefore find the ‘left to spend’ amount similarly a bit annoying when it’s constantly there in the new feed, and, to me, entirely irrelevant.
Perhaps there’s some compromise where if someone has never set a budget or set up the budgeting tools, the left to spend figure isn’t shown?
I don’t use a budget but live off the summary left to spend figure so that wouldn’t work annoyingly! Does seem like there needs to be a compromise somewhere though between the user groups
I love the redesign, as others said, the “spent today” is dearly missed.
I am looking forward to seeing how the new summary will look/work.
I also noticed this morning that the connection with my Barclaycard disappeared again, any reason on why this keeps happening?
[] Yay to having summary back and I love this little bar! Is it possible to get some RAG status to display like the actual summary dial? It’s telling me I had X amount left to spend but I have no idea if that’s good or bad without getting into summary properly (it should be amber, right now). The colour seems to be there for those with a budget set
