We're working on a new look for the Monzo app

Works! Thank you.

Hard to know without asking on here.

I think he’s using the “old” new interface, not the new new one that you have to toggle on in labs

Ahhh ok. There are too many versions now

  • Current layout
  • New layout beta testers
  • New new layout labs toggle

I just got mine today under the labs.

So far so good - but I’m finding the whole tap on a pot, swiping left on pots and then swiping all the way back right again to come out of pots rather than just a swipe down or tap on my Monzo card.

Can’t seem to add any other accounts yet! (Credit Cards or Bank accounts)

Ahh yes I’m a non-toggle layout user on the new layout that isn’t the old layout. So the ‘old’ new interface is what I see for both accounts.

Yes! And this complexity is incredibly difficult for us to manage in a safe way! It should be short term, and we’re only doing it because it’s a critical project we need you to test things out as quickly as possible. We would not maintain these many versions and flags under normal circumstances, so please bear with us on this

Keep in mind older builds break with/without some of these flags (all the combinations!) adding to this some folks already had enabled some flags in previous opt in form and might be running older builds, or have joint accounts. Not everyone has automatic app updates.

I’ve had what I think’s being called the ‘new new layout toggle’:smile: enabled via Labs (iOS) for the past couple of days and I broadly echo previous comments. It’s slick, I like the direction, and I’ve not found any obvious glitches in the matrix as far as the animations go. Good stuff all round! :+1:

I also agree with some of the other points previously raised around the need for an account ‘total’ somewhere and pot transactions showing in the ‘drawer’ but sounds like these are all on radar :innocent:

Some additional minor things (there’s the OCD kicking in :upside_down_face:) I’ve spotted:

View All - Dividing Lines for Pot Budgets / Credit Card Limits

In the ‘View All’ view, each pot and credit card is differentiated by a light grey line (circled below). Where there’s a goal for a pot or a credit limit for a credit card, this also has the light grey line and the ‘progress bar’ seems detached from the pot / credit card. I have multiple pots with goals all next to each other and it causes me to stop a second and double check whether the goal is associated with the pot above or below it :exploding_head:

Linked Credit Card - Available Credit

‘Available Credit’ doesn’t make sense in context of the adjacent “X% of £Y” (see above). E.G. Say I have an almost zero balance on my credit card, my available credit should be close to 100% rather than 0%. Currently, the wording should be something like “Available Credit Used” or the percentage flipped.

View All - ‘Pot’ Shading

Weird one! When navigating to ‘View All’, the page loads all pot headers (i.e. ‘CURRENT ACCOUNT’ and ‘POT’) in a black typeface which then rapidly transitions to a lighter grey. However, some header are randomly left in black causing a bit of a mixture (see below).

Inconsistent Balance Presentation - Decimal Places

Throughout the app (‘Home’ and ‘View All’), where a balance ends in 0 pence (£X.00), the decimals are dropped. This is then inconsistent with balances that aren’t round figures and continue to display the pence figure. Not sure if this bothers anyone else but it always makes me distrust the balance initially as I feel Monzo has rounded the balance and that it’s not accurate

Hopefully the fact I’m only picking on the little things shows that the overall experience has been a positive one so far.

(Typed out on a train home so sorry for typos and nonsensical stuff!)

@bruno

I’ve just updated to Android V2.54 and there seems to be a little bug.

On the main card screen, when the draw is up with the hot Corel card popping out, the information above is in plain text, which then matches across all the pots on a sideways swipe, but when I pull the draw down the the bottom, both the Account Balance and account sort code & number have a light blue pill shape highlighted them.

This really doesn’t look right or look very clean and tidy and doesn’t then match with the other pot screens etc when swiping across the pots to the main card screen

Is anyone else getting this ?

Where do we find our overall balance like before??

Updated to 2.54 beta on android. Where has summary moved to now?! Is it gone for good now?

Pull the feed tray down it’s the fifth button on the right

That button has disappeared now since updating

Weird!

Click on the balance at the top.

Nope nothing! :expressionless:

Understand I’m on beta layout and things like this will happen, but it’s quite annoying not having any idea how much I have left to spend after committed spend :see_no_evil:

The change @TaffyApple is describing is only shipping for Android in the latest version and can be seen in the screenshot below. I know some folks might not like this change, and partly this is because it’s still not completely finished. Here’s what’s happening here.

We have an updated balance component (balance amount + left to spend) that’s still not fully implemented. The idea is that when you close the drawer that balance component becomes tappable, and this is visually represented with the blue box.

Tapping on your balance/left-to-spend when your drawer is closed takes you to Summary.

In v2.53 we had a Summary entry point as a round card action. However there were too many actions and they were clipping on the edges which wasn’t good. So we decided to move this entry point to the balance component now.

It’s not the most accessible place because the drawer needs to be closed. However we want to open/close the drawer when you tap on the space above the drawer (anywhere on the card or the balance). This means you could tap your balance once to close the drawer, which highlights the blue box, and tap again to enter Summary.

Let me know what you think of this!

On iOS-land the old budgeting component is still at the top of the drawer.

 This is what it looks like in the latest version

 This is a design file of the direction we’re taking this:

I’m on Android beta too and if I click on my account Balance in the main screen above the account number, the summary page appears, but you can’t access this through the help page

It looks naff tbh, especially the pill box around the sort code & account number

Update - it also doesn’t feel right to have to click on the balance twice to get to the summary, or move the draw down and click on the balance.

There really has to be a better solution than this

By the way, for folks that have been complaining about seeing your overdraft usage below the balance when you’re not overdrawn. The screenshot above is what we’re updating it very soon to look like, showing your left to spend, and switching to your overdraft when you’re overdrawn.
