I am pretty certain they recall the direct debits as opposed to not paying them. Standing orders and future dates payments are flat declined if there are no funds.
At this point, I only care about Apple Pay and automatic rules for pots. That would make the current account perfect for my use. Good to see that this two topics are the ones winning the poll too!
Sorry I’m being dense, can you explain what you mean by ‘recall’ them?
The thing with international payments is that they’re probably essential to the people who voted for them. Apple Pay, rules for Pots, etc, would of course be very welcome but they’re about convenience. Not being able to get paid into your account, now that’s a real problem
Up to a certain time in the day a direct debit once paid can be recalled. Either at the banks or customers request. And I am assuming this is what is being used as my account would be in an overdrawn position until either I pay in funds or the payments are recalled.
Ok, that’s possible because the bank the DD is being sent to will not take any action until the next day and the sending bank has until some cut off on the day before to issue the instruction on what happened to that bank
That’s not personally a feature I care about but I’m sure it’s something Monzo could do in future (along with giving you all day to make sure there’s enough money for the DD present as long as it’s before the cut off)
Wasn’t aware of the £100 limit. You can just block the notification.
My point isn’t to advertise Barclays, my point is it’s possible to use the nfc direct with a bank without the need for third party accounts like Android and Apple pay.
Going back to my original point it was more about customers getting caught out as they are used to direct debits being recalled later in the day so they have breathing space to rectify. With Monzo you just get a straight direct debit decline.
I think it’s to do with the cost of Apple Pay v Android Pay. I remember reading an article about it a few years ago. So my guess is when the current deal Apple Pay have with Mastercard expires, then Monzo will be able to offer it.
Hey, sorry if I’ve missed it but was custom spending periods/months included above?
I’ve searched the forum and haven’t seen a recent update but this feels like the last piece for me for Monzo to really assist with budgeting.
Sorry, no I missed this one out. The budgeting definitely needs to be fine tuned, but they do have something in for that. I turned it off then on again recently as it just wasn’t giving useful data - partly down to the fluctuations as I move everything over to the CA, and partly down to the very limited categories Monzo offers (I really need Savings to indicate money is saved, not spent for example).
I get paid on the 24th - I really want functionality to move my target start date to the 24th otherwise the targets doesn’t really work for me, and I’d imagine the vast majority of users too?
Totally with this! As soon as this happens I’ll switch my accounts completely.
YES! Feel exactly the same. I’m a huge advocate of Monzo but this is one thing that is quite disappointing - it seems people have been asking for it for over a year and it’s not clear whether it is going to be implemented or what the issues might be with implementing it.
It seems lots of people have been asking for it, at least by my searches, surprised it wasn’t at the top of the list in this poll, unless people just don’t use targets?
Looking forward to dumping my budget spreadsheet one day Monzo please!
I do on a spreadsheet, but its not on android or my current bank so I’ve never thought to use it
I’d like to categorise my own spendings or at least be able to move things around i.e. If I shop at sainsbury’s it won’t always be groceries.
I can see how others wouldn’t like that, but it could be an optional thing, maybe?
Also attaching spending to pots would be pretty cool, I could put money aside for travel to work, let’s say, and when it comes out asign it to my “travel to work” pot.
Some more data summary features like graphs etc. would also be pretty handy.
I agree that producing bank statements is an old fashioned way of doing things and like the idea of allowing access for a bank to “Search” your account with permission - such like a credit search if required for a mortgage application etc. Think this may be some way off though and paper statements are therefore still required!
