Found him on Discord. Weirdly using ā€˜emperor of the universe’ as his name. Reinforces the fact that everyone who left has joined straight back up again anonymously.

To be clear, this STILL is not doxxing.

Hmm , me too @tdevx. So, what happened for all these rules to appear.

Ah, I miss those days. The thing is that Monzo is basically, give-or-take, a fully-featured bank now. They even added the Joint Account Custom Categories . I know that they can add this or that feature now, but it’s an ever-diminishing set of things. I personally don’t like / have use for the random bolt-ons to the paid-for accounts, nor most of the long-tail features to be honest. Monzo mostly feels like a feature-complete bank, one that is actually in the 21st century from bottom to top. And let’s face it, your bank account is a tool, not an endpoint. Money is a transactional entity, not an end in and of itself. So really… I guess that there just isn’t that much more to discuss, like there was in The Good Old Days.

I’d argue that there is more.

Their offerings, customer base, staff, and teams have all expanded significantly, and their feature set continues to grow. That means there’s now even more to explore, gather feedback on, and generate ideas from.

The community is just a checkbox exercise for staff. Drop an update, and ask for feedback, but then never engage in discussion.

To be clear it was me who used that phrase and given I’ve made the same request to Monzo support, it can be taken with a pinch of salt.

I do think it’s inevitable some people will feel a variety of emotions given a community that’s been a big part of our lives for a long time is basically now over.

I disagree. It’s up to Monzo if the forum stays open.

A community is the group of people we interact with and the way those people interact, and the community is now gone.

The community hasn’t gone. Perhaps the people that you consider as your community have gone but there are still people communicating on here.

I’m on both but I find this far easier to use and I’m not really into the rather juvenile conversation on the Discord.

Yes that’s exactly what I mean, as in that’s what people will react to one way or another. And it has very much gone, you can see it, there’s now a few posts here and there about banking and otherwise that’s it.

I don’t think it would.

The community as I joined was mainly early adopters and staff co-creating a new bank together. Those days left around 2020 with the odd exception or two.

As Monzo has grown so has how it gets its research for new products and I really don’t think it’s here anymore and hasn’t been for a while.

I suspect it was as busy as it was because a small band of active posters kept it artificially active and it’s now noticeable that they’re not here.

I’d bet over 99% of the Monzo customer base are not that bothered about new features, even if they were promoted to join here.

They just want the app to work and their money to do things for them.

How does one find the Discord?

It’s certainly interesting trying to identify people from their new names. I think I’ve worked out quite a few…

The worst offenders are the ones who were the same on here - that’s why it’s easy to identify them from their new names

You can just hide the general chat from your channel list if you’re not interested.

General chat will always be a free for all.

I’ve done some testing, created an account ticking the box ā€˜Under 18’ and it’s still alive, hasn’t been removed at all. It can post and it gets approved even whilst it knowing it’s underage!

Might want to have a chat with your developers, or better actually make this community inclusive.

I’m sure it can and hopefully that’ll happen.

I don’t get all the drama.

There was a core of frequent posters, many of whom I understand have been here since the early days of Monzo/Mondo.

While it’s true they created a community by their sheer excitement, knowledge and enthusiasm for discussing all things Monzo and finance in general, they are not the forum. There are numerous other people who have come and gone, and posting here seems alive and well.

To say things like ā€œthis place is done forā€ because a few people left and/or because some keywords were added to a filter is, respectfully, a ridiculous exaggeration.

You do kinda need people for a forum to work and if people leave and are not replaced, it will just die out anyway.
