I feel that Monzo need to give the tired icons a bit of a refresh. Starling has gone through a few different ones on their journey

Moving to Starling could be an option for you.

Last updated in 2018 by the looks of it We've added some new categories but they have changed a little in size since then.

I could do- however I prefer the overall package that Monzo provides- just a small plea for a bit of change

I don’t necessarily think there needs to be an update for update’s sake. If the old ones work and look good, and match the brand, there’s no need to change them just because they’ve been the same for a while. Updates should improve things or fix an issue, not just happen because it’s been X time.

Having said this, from when they launched I’ve been hoping for a little more flexibility with custom categories. In particular I’d love to see:

  • More colours options (a colour picker would be ideal) including single colour options. Having two colours on one looks nice with the brand stuff, but it makes it harder to sort by colour because you’re using up two of what’s already a limited range, rather than one.
  • The option to see all categories in one list when selecting, rather than having the default ones separated out.
  • The option to sort in a custom order, rather than alphabetical.
  • The option to change the colours and icons of the default categories.
  • The option to hide categories from the list - could be a “hidden” expandable section at the bottom to deal with when a purchase is auto assigned to a hidden category. There are some categories I never choose so these are just cluttering up the list for me.
