Upcoming payments with a join account sucks

I’ve been frustrated by this for a long time, but never did anything to feedback.

I know there was a lot of controversy around the new homepage. I’ve had it enabled it since beta and stuck with it. I still think the old one was better. My mind still hasn’t caught up with pots moving and I still open the account to see them. But I’m all for change and improvements, I think I understand why it had to change.

However, because I have a join account and a currently account. The upcoming payments feature is completely useless for me and is actually more annoying than serving a purpose.

What you do every month is presented me with balances for 2 separate accounts (fine). But you’ve combined all my upcoming payments from both accounts into one sum value. My direct depots come out on either 1st, 2nd or 3rd every month, but they are split between join and current account.

All I want to know is how much money will I have left in my current account after they’re out, right now that is impossible to calculate.

There is another thing about why are you forcing me to do maths, it is good to know how much is coming out, but I’m more interested in how much will be left, how much can I spend, would be nice if you told me that up front for both accounts

Create two pots for your bills, one on your personal one on your joint. Set your direct debits to be taken from that pot. When you get paid each month move the appropriate amount of money into each pot. You can use Salary Sorter to do this.

Your main balance on each account will then always reflect the actual amount of money you have available to spend after bills and you won’t need to do any calculating.

I agree. The old version app was spot on with the green bar which told you how much you have left after direct debits were due to leave your account in that month. Now Monzo try get people to do the whole target thing and input your own expenses and what you earn and what day you get paid etc. so basically Monzo are saying estimate it yourself. I hate the new features because they don’t work. Instead I have to do a separate pot which is located at the bottom of the app in a side box/bar for my direct debits and pay in the money. Then when I look at my statement all I see is a list of transfer from current to pot and moved back again. Looks horrendous and sloppy. Halifax and Bank of Scotland have a simple date tracker which tally’s up your direct debits and instantly tells you how much the bills are that month. So tempted to do the full switch to them but I do like the fact Monzo direct debits do show a few days before as pending and also immediately tells you if the bill amounts have changed ! Genious! It’s swings and roundabouts with banks. Wish they would take inspiration from all banks and squish it into one amazing product!

Bank of Scotland has a nice easy view of the upcoming month D/Ds . (Mine isn’t showing anything as I’ve just opened the account).

Does anyone know if Natiowide Flex Direct shows direct debits pending till the day it’s taken? Thinking of moving my bills over. I don’t like Monzo’s transfer in and out of pots, looks messy on my statements

They do not.

HSBC/first direct, Starling, Revolut are the only ones I can think of.

I wish RBS did. Gutted I didn’t CASS to nationwide when it was £200 for existing members.

Hopefully not long before the next one.

Edit: Chase also show you this top of feed.
