Time for a change of card design?

After seeing cards changing for multiple banks and there are some nice cards out there now (first direct).

I was wondering if there are any plans for Monzo to update the OG hot coral to something a bit more modern.

What would everyone else want to see from a new hot coral card?
I would love a more textured colour and an interesting coloured edge.

The only difference I would like to see is the option of changing card design in app, to cut down on plastic waste :slight_smile:

Changing their core brand colour would be crazy.

The cards needs a modern refresh but not changing the colour. Itā€™s been mentioned a lot and the US version is slightly different.

I would say that the Hot Coral colour and design at the minute is very modern.

Taking a look at First Direct, Santander, and HSBC they are all changing their cards to a standard base colour/gradient with no designs/patterns.

I think the current card makes a huge statement. :person_shrugging:t2:

They need to move all the raised numbers (etc) to the back of the card ā€¦ Then itā€™d be hugely more modern compared to what it is now. But I imagine thereā€™s a backlog of cards to get through first.

These of all sounds like changes for the sake of it, which is never a good idea for a brand or the Ā£Ā£Ā£ it will cost that they will never get back.

Your comment is the first one Iā€™ve seen describing First Directā€™s new card as nice. Most people seem to hate it.

Iā€™m glad Iā€™m not the only one! Iā€™ve rarely seen one I prefer over a horizontal design.

Most people hate things that are different or change in general. I like it simplicity, accessibility features and how I donā€™t show my card number to everyone when I get it out to pay :blush:

I get the idea that youā€™re putting it in a pin terminal, and so thatā€™s a vertical behaviour. But (imo) thatā€™s so rare now, Theyā€™re horizontal in Apple Pay, theyā€™re normally horizontal(ish) if contactlessing the card etc.

Keep the card oriented in landscape, but move the numbers to the back to match Plus and Premium. Job done.
