I know it’s easy for me to say but I would just embrace the baldness rather than pay for products/transplant.
There’s definitely an adjustment period and tbh I did kind of feel a bit depressed about it. But when people started telling me it suited me I got over it.
It was still a major mental hurdle to get over though.
Well this is it, I’ve had to endure the inevitable this 35 years and the level of stress it brings
Before I just went with the inevitable (a decision I massively regret not making earlier) I used to buy Propecia from Boots and after 6 months or so it really does work, but it’s best to take it way before it starts to be a visible “issue”:
As for my “routine” in as much as I have one, I moisturise my face with La Roche-Posay Effaclar Mat:
My beard I wash with Lush Kalamazoo:
I also wash my face with La Roche-Posay
Effaclar Micro-Peeling Purifying Gel Wash:
I cleanse/tone with Isntree Green Tea Fresh Toner:
And always put on a quick sun and pollution gel with
Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily UV Defense Aqua Gel:
In an evening I just do a basic wash and apply a serum with The Inkey List Retinol Serum:
Regaine on that Boots page. That’s what folks use back in the US.
Useful resource for @Carlo1460 maybe though? They’ve got all the OTC options there that are clinically proven to help.
Came out with what I guess is Heat Rash for pretty much the first time ever, multiple huge hives from my armpits to thighs… any kind of cream you can get for it if anyone here is “experienced”? I’m off to Spain tomorrow so hopefully it isn’t a new thing that happens everytime for me
Tea tree gel.
Always worth keeping some of that around. Helps soothe and fix a lot of skin problems.
Okay, so this SPF isn’t too bad:
Patch tested it today on one cheek. Maybe a little more redness on that cheek relative to the other, but no stinging sensation. Absorbs well.
I’m a bit confounded though. Because that means there is an ingredient in this product:
That is absent from that new standalone SPF, this moisturiser:
And their old standalone SPF:
Can’t work out what it might be. There is a sunscreen in the SPF moisturiser that is absent in the old daily shield. I’d chalked it up to that. But that sun screen seems to be in this one too. Has my skin suddenly become stronger? Did I get a dodgy moisturiser the first time I tried it? Has my skin’s sensitivity improved?
I’m stumped.
I’ll apply it properly tomorrow and see how it goes. At least this one comes with a warning that it may cause a burning sensation and to cease use if that happens.
Is there any particular type you’re looking for?
That looks like a gel, and I tend to prefer creams (I find they absorb better as opposed to sitting on top of my face) so not sure if the stuff I like is the sort of moisturiser worth recommending.
I moved away from Clinique years ago though over their ownership (Estee Lauder) and animal testing policies (don’t know if that’s improved).
It is gel and I’ve never really considered it to be honest.
I started with the above, have been receiving it for free for some time, but now I have to pay. And I’ve seen the cost
There’s nothing wrong with it, but before I pull the trigger I thought I’d ask on here after remembering a discussion about it all and evaluate some options first.
If you’re interested in trying a cream, the one I use (ESPA’s pro moisturiser) is in the same pricing bracket. They also have a dedicated men’s one which is actually a bit cheaper.
If your goal is cheaper, Cerave is usually a good shout. Or the ordinary which I think are generally a well liked brand on here. I’ve no experience with either though.
Worth noting that your Clinique one is on sale at Look Fantastic for about £25 right now though, if that makes a difference?
What price range are you looking at?
It’s a shame Yes To pulled out of the U.K. market because they made one of the only gel to cream moisturisers I actually liked, and it was a tenner.
I don’t really have a budget. As with all things, I just like to get an understanding of what warrants different prices so that I can ensure I’m getting good value for money.
Brand means nothing, so I dont want to be paying for a name when I could potentially get some from the £1 shop. Extreme example to make my point I dread to think what’s in something like that.
ESPA sounds good and thanks for the tip on the sale of my current stuff. I’ve found it on amazon with prime delivery for £24 too!
I’ll go do some research and comparisons. Thanks!
I’ve posted a couple of links to it above in trying to evaluate sun screens and identify the ingredient burning my skin, but what’s in my jar is really good for that sort of research.
I’m going to bump this legendary topic as I can’t think where else my question would fit…
I use a face scrub and moisturiser every few days and I’ve just run out of moisturiser. I wondered if anyone on here have any recommendations before I re-order my trusty type.
Which is this:

@AlanDoe would you mind please sir
Over 40 years I’ve used a huge variety of different moisturisers, from really cheap ones to expensive brands. On the whole, I haven’t found the expensive ones to be much better than the cheap ones. I’m currently using Nivea Soft, the one in the white tub, not the horrible sticky stuff in the blue tub. It’s cheap, effective, and it’s only greasy if you put too much on.
The dog poop bag company I love (They’re still the only ones I’m aware of who produce water soluble bags and don’t greenwash the reality of biodegradation in a landfill, where dog poop waste must go if you don’t home compost) and have recommended on here before have been breaking into other markets this year to apply that same thinking and process to other products. The latest being skin care.
They’ve got a new range of hand soaps and hand creams as part of their apothecary endeavours, and the cost isn’t outrageous either. I’ve tried the lip balm, and it’s great. I’ll be keeping an eye on this.
