And some remote signups, like close friends, family members, girlfriends/boyfriends/partners - For example, I hand delivered to my cousin who couldn’t make the event. This is a very small number though, just a few people per employee.
Note - I am not currently accepting applications for new friends
@alexs, good to speak with you yesterday evening. Do you think it would it be worth having a separate thread with companies who are unable to switch Direct Debits to 04-00-04? I moved five today, but Halifax Home Insurance needed to update their systems, and I’ve read of others experiencing problems with Thames Water. If we had a separate list, we could them off one by one when resolved
Does anyone know if the new chips offer any different/additional functionality (or potential future functionality) compared with the chips in our pre-paid and the CA preview cards?
Thanks, Ben & Alex. I didn’t realise that would require a new chip, assumed it was just a question of changing the flag to say it was a debit card (not that I know anything about the details of EMV chips!).
I’ve got much bigger problems than that! I’ve not yet received an invite to the CA, and would need to wait for an Edinburgh event even if I did.
I’m glad you’ve bought that up..so we know that this is the plan -
& that roughly 100 users are getting current accounts, at each preview event.
It’s obviously not going to be possible to give out 5,000 cards in one month at these events (they’d need to hold 50 in one month!) so I reckon it’s safe to say that they’ll start posting the cards out in less than a month’s time
Yes, I enjoyed that part of Tom’s presentation when listening to it, as he was pretty definite about the numbers (assuming no major issues). However, the question for me is whether I’ll make the cut as part of the 5k next month, or 20k in October.
Either way, though, I’m fine. I’ve reached a zen state regarding my access to the current account: it will come when it comes, and I’m happily using the prepaid card until then. However this plays out, it’s not far away. I can even read others’ posts on here about issues/experiences with the current accounts and not feel a pang of disappointment, just interest and excitement of what’s to come.
From the pool of customers who have registered their interest and are happy to deal with the limitations, we’ll invite people to sign up over the coming months. This selection will generally be random, although at times we may want to pick people based on their location or usage to help us get a broad spread of customers.
Registering your interest does not guarantee you a current account immediately. Depending on how many people register, we may not be able to give you an account for a few months. Rest assured, we want to get them out as quickly as possible but we need to balance that with ensuring our customers have the best possible experience.
