The Great Permacrises

This was an entitely avoidable mess. I think all three potential leaders called for the media to be allowed in the end. Were they not asked about this or were they just ignored?

Yes, that’s my understanding. Lower house prices offsets increased interest payments. So if someone has budgeted £X for a house, they’re still paying £X even if the split is different from expected.

If house prices don’t fall, their budget is blown by the extra interest, so either they find the money from somewhere - or they don’t buy.

Those who have already bought would still be shafted by interest, unfortunately. Negative equity would rear its ugly head.

I’m sure I must say this every year, but while I would ideally like to see house prices fall massively, realistically I know that’s not going to happen because of too many vested interests. The best that I can hope for is that prices are flat and stay so for long enough that prices ‘fall’ because they’re not going up relative to everything else. But for that to happen, government controls would be needed, and no-one seems likely to want to do that.

It’s important to be clear here on the difference between house prices falling in real (inflation adjusted) terms, vs houses prices falling in absolute terms.

With inflation in double digits, and if house prices stay flat, it won’t be that long before house prices have fallen by 20% in real terms, but that doesn’t mean anyone will be in negative equity.

Lol I just came across a new homes builder that’s offering £10k worth of John Lewis vouchers when you reserve a property with them. Like it’s been said above, they’ll offer anything but reduce the actual price of the property.

It also makes more sense commercially.

Whatever they are offering (vouchers, furniture, carpets etc) will cost them less than the list price. So £1,000 worth of carpet only costs them, say, £800.

Why do these people even become politicians when they clearly hate the public?

You don’t have to like the public to have power over them and make money off them.

Are you part of some sort of affiliate news network or something?

No, I just look at news websites occasionally.

I think we all do, you just seem to post everything you find here. Just wondered if you were doing it to make money on clicks somehow.

No, just post things I have an interest in.

Maybe. But we can all just post a link to a news article with no comment about it, there’s always a thread on here that it will fit.

That was the 5th link today. If everyone posted every article they read it would be a mess.

Well I’m so sorry that it goes above the limits that you are happy with.

I’ll make sure in future I limit what I post just for you.

Actually, I probably won’t because not everyone is postingevery article they are reading (not even me) so it isn’t a mess.

The Nationwide article was about Nationwide so I posted that in Nationwide.

The Metro Bank article had news about Metro Bank, so I posted that in a thread for banking articles.

The posts in here are about the crisis that both the government and Scottish government have been in.

See, they are all suitable. Sometimes, I might have a comment on the article so I post it, sometimes I don’t have much of an opinion or I want to see what others think, so I don’t want to post a comment.

None of this is against any rules, so please don’t act as if I am doing something wrong.

I never said they weren’t, but I don’t see why you post everything you read. “Here’s a story about Metro, better go on the Monzo forum to post it for 4 people to read”

Which is why I presumed you were making money from it. The fact you’re not makes it stranger TBH.

If it matters to anyone at all, I’m happy for you to continue as you are.

While most of the links posted here are content that I’m already aware of, some offer extra insight and others are new and interesting to me.

Like I said, I don’t.

I don’t see why you need to comment and question why I am posting baking articles on a banking forum, but here we are.

Ok, you think it’s strange, whatever. You still don’t need to question me about it, but as you seem to have an issue with everything I do, of course you’re going to question it.

I’ll stop posting now. Wouldn’t want you to question what I’m posting again.

Are you sure you’re not Stamer & Sunak in disguise? :joy:

Love the contribution from both of you, keep it going.

Political parties are private membership clubs. If you want a say, join the party.

You’ll get your say on the party’s (leader’s) promises at the next election.
