The Great Holiday Topic 🏖️

You’re all good mate :joy:
Just wanted to add my experiences into the mix without getting into a case study.

Happy with your possible explanation for my issues.

You guys discuss away…

I’ve been critical of Flighty a couple of times on here. So it’s only fair to say, yesterday it gave me the correct gate info 30 mins before it was on the airport screens so no complaints yesterday.

I’m still reluctant to rely on it fully and can’t justify the high subscription. But it is great for simply keeping a flight log.

I’ve used flightly a lot since app in the air left. And I can’t fault it. Very strange to see others having issues with it

I’d never rely on one thing for gates really. What I tend to do is use FlightRadar24 to follow my plane to where it lands and parks the flight before.

If Flighty then gives me the same gate I’m 99% sure it’s correct, which it usually is.

I’ve never missed a plane in my life and I’ve travelled all over the world. Seems to work fine!

I used flighty for my Europe tour.

5 flights, 2 didn’t have any gate info at all.

It’s a great app, and I’m glad I paid for the premium subscription. Been working on backfilling some of my flights too!

Oh I pay for premium for the month/week when I’m flying, too. Gate info would be nice but I appreciate all the other features, really.

Me neither and I just look at the board in the airport

Appreciate the effort of tracking on flight radar though.

Little winter sunshine holidays in Panama. 30°c and sunshine, what else could I ask for!

My return plane hasn’t left its previous destination yet, and my flight now has no chance of departing on time (total flight time more than time until departure), unless it finds a wormhole. Flighty still insisting I’m departing on time.

The airline haven’t published it yet then. What airline is this?

All apps basically rely on the airline assigning a plane to a route. If the plane is assigned to the route then this is all they have to work on. It might be a tad dangerous to start assuming your flight won’t go ahead (even if you can tell it won’t) on the off chance that your airline secure another plane to get you away on time.

It’s much more common in hub airports but you have to just have the same rules in place to make an app work. Many times I have had BA assign a plane to my flight and then at the last minute (or within the last hour) it changes to another. If I’m sat in the airport I’d never know, but Flighty/FlightRadar24/other apps would show you.

It’s actually really common for airlines to say your flight remains on time until they literally tell you otherwise.

The plane inbound to one of my flights was cancelled. But they found a new plane and everything was fine.

I worried my flight wouldn’t go ahead. But it did.

Without Flighty I wouldn’t know.

In Finland for Christmas, me and my sled lost a battle with a small (giant) bump on the slope yesterday and I am now very bruised all over. Still great fun though.

I think you’ll find that’s a corpse, not a giant bump. Hope you reported it to law enforcement.

Are you back for Xmas? I remember I spent Xmas one year in Australia. Sweating bollocks in hunter valley in 45c heat. Didn’t feel right being that warm at Xmas. Was pissed by mid morning due to the wine tours though. Nearly had to fight a kangaroo.

You can’t just leave it there. We need details :boxing_glove::kangaroo:

Booked an Airbnb in hunter valley. Was a newish build estate. Walking along with the wife , turned a corner around a house and there was a couple of tiny Joey’s. Next second there was a massive kangaroo speed bouncing towards us. Probably to protect it’s young. Kinda had to try act all big and shout but was secretly shiting myself.

Anyway next day we had some nice kangaroo burgers. Made the mistake of saying that out loud while at the zoo Infront of some kids that were petting a kangaroo at the time.

Also tried some crocodile and shark which I wasn’t a fan of.

It’s all I’ve ever really known. Have only spent Christmas in the UK/Ireland twice. Every single other Christmas I’ve been to Panama to be with family.

As much as I like the cold weather, I rather wake up on Christmas morning, open some gifts and head to the beach or the pool :sunny::sunglasses:

No kangaroos to punch tho

Flighty haters hate away.

Could go punch a jaguar or one of those weird red eyed frogs.

Do I have a story about that. Not me personally, but Status Quo - on tour in Australia:

"Fact: incredible but true stories

Dress me kangaroo up

(late 1970s)

On tour in Australia, Status Quo’s tour bus hit a kangaroo. There’s really only one thing to do when you have just knocked over and killed a kangaroo if you’re Status Quo. You prop the kangaroo up, dress him in the Quo uniform of denims, white shirt and leather waistcoat and take a photograph.

All went according to plan until the photographer took the picture and the non-dead, merely concussed kangaroo woke up. Taking a look at the Quo posse, the kangaroo did what any marsupial (indeed, any human) would do in the circumstances and legged it into the outback. Status Quo stood around for a while laughing at their little prank, tickled that somewhere in the outback was a kangaroo dressed like them. The laughter swiftly subsided when they realised that the keys of the tour bus, which they were now locked out of, were in the pocket of the denim jeans they had put on the kangaroo. A poetic victory if there was one."
