As per the blog post yesterday regarding overdrafts, it was stated that “We’re aiming to get to 20,000 customers by the end of September and then all of our 370,000+ users by the end of the year.”
I am on the Monzo Current Account preview, and I can confirm it’s a fully functioning current account which is excellent. If you’re happy to wait until the end of the year, you can have one too.
Personally the function I would miss the most is not being able to top up your account with a debit card/Apple Pay. Currently with my bank account I need to carry around a bit of plastic to authorise bill payments on my current account.
Also will Monzo be adding the functionality of adding your card details automatically to Apple Pay via the app? Excellent integration by Starling.
You’ll more likely be surprised by an email offering you access to the CA app from which you can then order your card. Unless they change the work-flow, of course.
I’m going by memory of something said at a CA rollout event a number of weeks ago.
I believe Tom said the current thinking was that at some undefined point in the future you’ll get a feed item/notification that invited you to convert to the CA. You’ll go through the verification process etc. and then your card will be sent out to you.
Don’t take this as a verbatim fact, but that’s my hazy memory of something said a few weeks ago. Hopefully someone else can verify that I’m in the right ball park.
I too am frustrated about the current account rollout, I’m impatient and want access to the CA right now. I despise the gradual rollout. But to be fair on Monzo, Starlin had a head start and got their Banking licence earlier by a year. If anything Monzo has achieved the Current Account in a way shorter time than Starling. So to say its behind Starling is unfair.
To be honest i’m the same, I’ve been a monzo customer since the middle of last year and i signed p for the beta and have heard nothing at all from the monzo team which is a bit disappointing. i can understand that this a preview and there rolling them out slowly but i think they have should of gone with account beta open like they did with the pre-paid card.
I’ve been using starling for a bit now and there service is flawless of what I’ve been using it for, cant say much for there app though it could definitely do with some design improvements.
i cant see a lot of people getting there monzo debit cards until the very end of the year- next year.
Good things come to those who wait. Monzo is doing this the right way. 1670-ish accounts so far. Testing and gradually rolling out. In their blog post they’ve said they aim to get everyone on board by the end of the year. That’s only four months.
Bear in mind that considerable amount of us have been have been long-time Monzo users. I’ve been a user since last July, so the wait would be 17 months - in my view quite long. I feel that long-time users should be prioritised in the slow roll-out, provided that they’ve shown interest.
To be honest even pledgers didn’t get their account previews first… the process seems totally random but as a non-investor with a current account I can’t complain too much though I do feel bad for those that invested and weren’t chosen yet.
