Yeah ive been paid by two different government agencies into my monzo account with no issues
maybe if they put as much effort into sorting out a fit for purpose payroll system as coming up with wanky job titles they could pay their staff
I have suggested this, but apparently their payroll system is the supreme authority on sort codes. I honestly think its effort for them to pay me manually, so they would rather let me go without wages for a week while I open a new bank account
In fairness, it is probably wise to have a second account anyway. You have Monzo/Mastercard already. Its worth having a high street bank/Visa combo too incase one or the other is ever down. It certainly helps if you need branch access and you can access most of them via the post office too.
Still thereâs no excuse for them not to pay your wages into Monzo though!
Sadly https://www.tescobank.com/current-accounts/ arenât accepting applications any more
If you know who the payroll company is, maybe worth getting ahold of them directly and letting them know? Ultimately itâs in their best interests to fix it so they should update the sort code validation database and then a month later ask your company to try update the details again and it should work fine.
Might acceptance@monzo.com help here? Although I think that they probably try to solve things slowly but surely and through the appropriate channels, whereas in this case it sounds like sending an east-end gangster around to have a âpolite wordâ would be more productive.
monzo has beta account in usa so maybe they think itâs a bank from there, i never had any sort of issues adding monzo account details to be paid into
I asked for the details of the payroll company, apparently its the supermarkets policy not to give the name of the company at the payroll companies request as âthey would receive loads of callsâ. I did suggest that if they refuse to pay people they would indeed receive a few phonecalls
Seems a potentially reasonable theory, the HR hurriedly googled Monzo and saw results for the US?
You could open an account at another bank, and then use CASS to switch to Monzo. Itâs not guaranteed to work, but it might.
If they donât comply Iâd get arsey with them. If it states in your contract that they will pay you into a UK bank account then their breaching their own contract.
This would probably work, it would even possibly auto-update the details on the payroll system. Lol.
Have seen this with issue with other companies also. Many organisations payroll software system mandates to have an IBAN number possibly because it can be run even from outside UK. As I understand, Monzo does not provide an IBAN. Have faced this issue before with Monzo and Revolut. Starling worked fine though.
I read this and was taken aback about their claims that Monzo is an offshore bank, it sounded like things escalated rather quickly
Unless they have mistaken you as someone else who is rich enough to have to have an offshore account with Coutts in Monaco via an offshore company located in the BVI
Either way, surely, it should be their responsibility to get wages into employees accounts otherwise theyâre not really doing their job as HR?!
I work for a large online retailer and loads of us get our wages paid into Monzo.
Does someone for HR work for one of the big 4 banks?
I wouldnât be surprised if they need IBAN and this is why theyâre struggling with monzo. Theyâre owned by a us company and have probably consolidated payroll.
Personally, I would write a polite but firm email to hr, my line manager, and anyone else appropriate (union/an employee complaints email) explaining you have not been paid, you have provided a UK bank account, and if the money isnât with you in that account within 5 working days you will be taking legal action to claim the funds
But as you said - you need to eat so it might be easier to open another bank account
Iâm fairly certain thatâs against GDPR - you jave a right to know who is processing your data, even if itâs on behalf of the company who controls it. Within your joining paperwork there must be some mention of the subprocessors that your employer uses in managing your employment data.
That is against GDPR I believe.
The identity of a processing company must be made clear in the event that the processor has a data breach and your data is either at risk or compromised.
This is a very unfortunate situation for the OP - I also work for a retailer, not Morrisons, Asda or Tesco big, but up there big, and was the first to switch my bank details to Monzo just after I went full Monzo - I didnât hear one peep out of anyone and was paid on time totally painlessly.
So given the somewhat antique systems our company uses, Iâm really surprised I didnât have a problem and that another big retailer would have problems.
Anecdotally, as someone who works in IT as a software developer, I can tell you working with HR has been one of the most painful experiences Iâve ever had, both in terms of recruitment and as project stakeholders.
For anyone wondering, this was Asda, they couldnât give a toss that they owed me money and their computer system wouldnât pay me. Eventually I had to threaten to sue them (cheesy I know but it wasnât an empty threat) and they eventually decided to put a little effort into paying me.
