Summary - Feedback thread

When I click in each category on summary I’m no longer able to see expenditure aggregated across retailers (i.e. Tesco £X) . Will this feature be returning?

Hate summary. A feature that should have had a toggle to let the customer decide if they want summary or spending

Really like Summary!

:calendar: I am super excited for when Direct Debits are predicted so they can be included in committed spending as they’re pretty much all I have (at the moment my entire spend is £8!! Cheap mortgage eh?).

 I don’t use the pulse graph at all, though I’ve adjusted to it being there Ok, but this feature I already know I will use all the time!!

 I also like being able to set targets for specific areas only.

:calendar: And I’m looking forward to the flexible date stuff too!

 I get paid on the last working day on or before the 27th - I get the impression you’re considering doing it smartly, based on payments, but I also think setting a rule like the above could be really useful as it’d allow the app to know both the start and end date accurately at the start of the period.

 Lastly, I think it’s great that there is a special guide for summary in the help section, since it’s new, and it includes what you’re working towards. Yet another example of Monzo answering my questions before I even have a chance to ask them

I don’t k is if anyone has already mentioned this but is there going to be the ability to change start and end dates of the pay period based on other payment frequencies, for instance I’m paid and pay my rent weekly by standing order, so my summary is never accurate.

That’s part of the ongoing development effort. What’s there now answers the basic monthly case with future iterations hopefully making it more useful in other scenarios.

Summary Page looks great, but there are two things I think need adding/returning;

  1. When setting spending targets I’d like to see a total accumulated amount of all spending categories. This seems to have been removed?
  2. The ability to choose a specific start date for the months spending. This is for when salary pay dates change with the length of the month.

Thanks for everyones hard work, the app keeps getting better and better.

Personally I think this is an example of where the release v1.0 and iterate method Monzo use didn’t work. Summary really isn’t very useful for a lot of people at the moment especially with it not show DD in commited spending, which should have been one of the first things it should do and would have been better in my opinion if it had been developed more before release, especially to non testflight/beta users

Developed more in say a program called like I dunno, Monzo Labs perhaps? :eyes:

Exactly, shouldn’t have left Monzo labs for at least another 1 or 2 iterations at the very least

Thanks Jami, I look forward to it. Personally I could already set a useful target, which was the same number each month. It was such a simple and useful feature that has really helped me reign in my spending this year.

Since yesterday, with my target gone, I’ve already bought two Lamborghinis, an entire avocado farm and an extra flat white. See what you’ve done!

Yup, this is something we want to bring back to Android (and bring to iOS).

Thanks for this Thomas, both of those points are currently being designed. Sneak peeks soon!

Has anyone who doesn’t get paid with the salary managed to make sense of Summary?

Budgeting was one of the main reasons I chose Monzo. Doesn’t work anymore

Summary isn’t working for me in a few instances. Obviously, the direct debits will need to be included (but that’s under development). But it doesn’t seem to be accounting for incoming payments that contribute to the amount of money available for bills (which i go back and categorise manually).

i.e. i pay rent every month for my whole house, and my partner pays me his half the day before it’s due to come out. Summary doesn’t seem to account for this, so the left to spend report is inaccurate.

Separate to the other issue. It seems selecting your pay date doesn’t work for anything more than the most recent months (see screenshot where April and May have been auto categorised, but March can’t be edited). I go into March to try to select my pay transaction, but it only brings up the incoming transactions from May. Screenshot_20180524-110918

I can’t say I find summary particularly useful at the moment. I’m surprised it’s out of labs. I would have expected Committed Spending, setting an overall budget, and salary date range improvements to have been done before it was released. At the moment the only real improvement over the old spending is the ability to highlight my salary.

I still despise the big ring but I’m hopeful that after further iteration it will prove useful enough to deserve such a huge amount of screen space.

yep, you need to be able to select a specific date that you’ll be paid, as it is always 2 days either side of the 24th in my case.

Have targets been disabled again?

I was paid today, so as Summery should its started a new month… I moved lots of money to different pots, did a bit of spending today… but under Summary I don’t see the little Target bar anymore? Any ideas?

Another piece of feedback I’ve noticed, not sure if it’s been mentioned before here or in the labs thread: but my pay day is the last Thursday of every month. So currently my summary is stretching from Apr 26-May 25, but I’m not actually going to get paid until 31st. Before that, my last payments have been on the 29th, 22nd, 25th and 21st so as you can see this set 30 day period isn’t going to really work for me.

Are there any plans for ‘smart’ start dates, or the ability to choose the xth day of the month?

Do bills only show under committed spending before they come out of your account? Mine is always empty as my DD all come out the day after payday
