Starling Discussion & Feedback

I saw at least 4 on the Fitbit forum who’d opened an account there. So add them on

And I really don’t wish to get singed, but I haven’t seen anything official, certainly not from Starling. I’m sure there was an allusion/assumption to account numbers the other day in a fintech article. It was well short of Monzo’s anyway. 100k - ish?

Sorry.

Due to the requirements on them to retain a certain level of funds due to customer numbers (which referred to in the article posted further up this thread) I assume they are in 6 figures. The last figure I heard bandied about in a workshop by an employee of a high street bank was that they now had in excess of 150,000 but that was before they brought in international payments, and excludes business accounts.

… I appear to have stumbled into a Monzo Starling love fest

I’d like to know how many people put their salary into the account, rather than dormant or as a “top up” account…

Now I know starling won’t tell us cos they’re like that…can someone direct me to Monzo’s answer on this. Or tag someone who can answer… transparency and all that…

That’s an interesting one. It’s also a very difficult one to ascertain, since people may have different payday cycles - weekly/fortnightly/monthly or, if they are self-employed, whenever someone pays them. So I’m not sure how accurate any such estimates could be.

Doesn’t matter how many users Starling have they are better than Monzo right now.

No they’re not. But they are awfully nice…:relieved:

I’ll stick to :coffee:️ if you don’t mind.

I wish to see a continuation of the mutual respect previously established. may hinder this :smirk:

I clicked like to indicate yes but I didn’t know if you would understand my meaning. So yes

To be fair…it only matters if any of the banks are using the deposits to make money with…assuming that’s a traditional revenue stream for banks…

It’s nice that you acknowledge my failings. I’m not the sharpest…:flushed:

Think it’s more products that you pay interest on that makes money. But deposits do indicate how many users there are (to a small extent)

Starling (and Monzo) use deposits to make money, via overdrafts. I think Starling also invests a small proportion into government gilts, which is debt issued by the government. Starling gets paid interest on the money that was lent to the government. Monzo’s doesn’t do it right now, although their “Investment Ethics” transparency page says that they will likely do it in the future.

I guess Starling make most from providing banking services to other firms, and I mean banking not business accounts
