Starling Discussion & Feedback

I’m probably the worst Starling customer possible, I just use my account to pay in salary, pay rent and pay direct debits. I never used the debit card, I haven’t withdrawn cash from a cash machine for years and always have a very small positive balance. All of my savings accounts are elsewhere.

All of my other spending is on a credit card that I pay off in full every month as it offers good rewards (Amex) and a few other perks.

I think if Monzo want to focus on consumers over business banking they should release a credit card with perks - that would attract a lot of interest I reckon. Heck, if they could do something like the Apple Card but in the UK they’d be onto a winner.

I hold both accounts, with Monzo my main.

I still prefer the Monzo UI and UX than Starling.

I’d say the Starling UI is functional and that’s it, if they’re paying my direct debits/standing orders on time, accepting my salary and tells me how much is in my account - I’m happy.

I think UI would matter more for me if I did all my spending on the debit card, but to me spending on a CC is so much better so I mostly just use the Amex app.

I am currently trying this out.

Second month now where all spend on Amex or Visa card.

Obviously means no budgeting summary in Monzo now, however, that is under control and easy to manage.

Maybe you can go check out the Starling forum for people griping about them. Oh right

Starling mess up as well, but that they’ve kept it quieter shouldn’t necessarily be counted as a plus

Does starling have decent budgeting features?

Starling never has any customer problems at all …o…k…a…y  … Monzo have loads of problems on their public forum …pick a bank look at the reviews of customers having their accounts blocked for no reason …all banks have the same legal requirements

I’ve seen reviews on TrustPilot and Social Media about Starling restricting accounts. It’s the same with all banks. Like you say, Monzo is only highlighted because they come complaining on here.

Interestingly Monzo have a higher % of negative reviews

yay …go on then seeing its a slow friday night …Monzo have more customers

higher % with fewer reviews on trust pilot…

When I google “Monzo freezing accounts” a ton of articles come up and disgruntled accounts from customers. When I do the same for Starling, virtually nothing…

I get half a ton of disgruntled Starling customers when i google , despite them having a third of the amount of customers Monzo have…nah its not worth it even on a slow Friday night …enjoy your evening

Ian, remeber that searching the internet for random statistics is the source of all that is true and good in this world. The internet doesn’t lie.

It must be true because the internet told me…

Monzo can do no wrong. Starling bad. Reviews Fake. Articles = Fake News.

You’ve lost me.

Monzo have done fantastic things. Starling are doing absolutely amazing with what they’ve achieved during the pandemic especially. I’m a huge supporter of their product. However, I don’t like the sense of rivalry between the two. There’s instances where they’ve both treated customers absolutely appallingly. One is not infinitely better than the other. The BBL scheme for Starling especially has been abysmal, just like how Monzo got it very wrong with the first Plus iteration and instances of bad communication with customers with restricted accounts.

You’ve been around a long time, more than the starling forum. Dig is a bit old.
