Yeah I honestly had not seen the ability to open multiple current account with high street banks so when I heard they charged £2 for something I thought you couldnt get with other banks it didnt seem too bad since its all in one app.
Well that’s 20 minutes I won’t get back
Very little relevant to the thread title imo.
Reference the off topic multiple accounts, I can confirm Virgin Money, Santander, Halifax, as I have with each currently.
It is a real shame they seem to have picked up the Monzo tradition of nickel and diming customers with these awful fees. The one thing you could do to sell Starling to people was to point to Monzo’s fees and say ‘at least they’re not like that’, but in the eternal quest to make a profit I guess they’re under pressure to get the money in and have decided charging for this and the Kite product is the best way. Leaves a rather sour taste though. If it stays only as this then it won’t be so bad, but we all know that when these companies get the whiff of cash from your pocket it rarely is long before you cough, sneeze or think of potentially using your debit card and they’re charging a ‘open, honest and transparent small fee’, so I’m not hopeful.

I’m at Victorious Festival today in Southsea (Portsmouth)
They’ve just had the “Hello Starling Bank” adverts on the screens for the main stage
Sakes. Their advertising budget must be quite something. They’ve even reached my part of the world
Whether this was a coincidence or not, since they have aim to have 400 staff (250 existing and 150 being recruited) in your part of the the world (well, next door in Southampton), it doesn’t seem surprising that they’d push brand awareness locally. It’s pretty standard for businesses with a significant presence in an area to spend a bit of cash so the locals know who they are.
I can promise you that no-one in Portsmouth considers anything that happens in Southampton as a local or significant presence, and I’m not even from the South myself
I guess times have changed since I lived on St Thomas’s St then. It was some time ago and places do change. Nice to go back to the old town on occasion for a visit but it’s not like it used to be.
YOU’RE JUST A LITTLE TOWN FROM PORTSMOUTH!
I went on Friday and noticed the ads. All I think of when they yap on about how easy it is, is all the hoops that @N26throwaway had to jump through first.
In fact they were the only ads between the acts today
I’ve never bought anything based on advertising between acts at any festival, whether across the road from me or farther afield, but someone must I guess
Or the whole advertising industry is a total crock. I am not dismissing that possibility
Commuter country from London? Hardly the Outer Hebrides!
mostly the days of adverts being about making someone go out and buy something are gone. Now it’s more about building brand awareness and soft influence.
Someone may think theyve ignored an advert but then when they go to switch products, ‘Starling Bank’ is no longer a thing they have never heard of and instantly dismiss, but a brand they have some mental picture of built up by branding. At that point it can strongly increase the chances of them investigating it as an option.
Jumping in here as I’ve had to do some tidying up in here as things got completely off topic and somewhat aggressive which is disappointing.
I’ll be sending a message to users to discuss this - I’m not looking for an ongoing discussion on what happened over the past couple of days on this Topic.
The Topic is about Starling and their products and how they may compare to competitors. Name calling is not acceptable in this Topic or elsewhere on the Community.
Please feel free to continue the discussion - I thank all those who tried to keep on topic
I got this message today in my Starling app:
I don’t need a physical card, but would like to still be able to use the Starling card in Apple Pay.
If I don’t use my card in the next two weeks and they don’t send me a replacement, does anyone know whether I will be able to keep my Starling card in Apple Pay? Will they not send a replacement of the physical card but update the Apple Pay card?
Have you contacted support to check, I’ve not seen that notice reported before on any forums of Twitter etc
I got this today as well. It wasn’t obvious from the message which card they mean (I have several accounts).
If you’re getting the message and have been using Apple Pay, then presumably that hasn’t counted as using the card.
Once you have a new card, I’m pretty sure you’ll have up updates on Apple Pay, though it should be pain-free from within the app…
No, that’s my next step, but thought I’d check here first in case anyone else had experience with this.
I haven’t used the card at all (physical or through Apple Pay). Not a big deal if I can’t, just would be nice to maintain the option to use it through Apple Pay and online as a backup.
I had the same message from Starling last November and just requested a new card at the time.
I needed a new one anyway as my original one wouldn’t allow me to pay in at post offices.
I guess they are just trying to avoid the cost of sending out cards to customers who don’t use them.
I had same message from Santander earlier in the year. I chose the card as a card number was needed for Netflix.
That didn’t count as card usage either though
