Starling Bank Chat (Part 2)

A cheap start-up that would be around for a few years and then disappear. It’s exactly what it feels like.

I burst out laughing reading that email, I had to double take that it was genuine.

Why not lean into the bird theme (murmur, starling, bird….) and use that as the icon? I think they shied away from it in the past because of the distinctive Twitter logo, but Twitter (RIP) has been resigned to the history books for years now.

Lloyds has the black horse and use that as their icon

Lloyds has been excellent at modernising their logo whilst also feel traditional and trusted. This Starling rebrand is just the total opposite

Not a fan, but then I don’t rate the current branding either. I get that they need to modernise/update it though.

The card collectors will have to wait to next year though :joy:

Totally agree :100: :scream:

I can’t believe they approved that horrible S logo as a new app pic :face_with_peeking_eye:.

Did a child use its crayons?

You’d have to be a really dedicated card collector to want those ugly designs.

I still can’t get over how bad it is, I hope they let you customise the icon, at least to the purple colour rather than the plain thing they’re planning on foisting on us…

It’s a big thumbs down over on X (Twitter), so far. All the comments are dead against the new branding.

Although, don’t most rebrands get a negative reaction really?

Given the current state of that cesspool maybe that means that actually I should like it?

Well they don’t like it on Facebook or Instagram, either.

See previous comment

Anyway, has anyone been positive about it so far? All seems to either be “meh” or actively disliking it. You have to question what sort of focus groups they used for this….

I think I’ll wait and see what it’s like in person. I haven’t received an email on it though but I’m not that active a user with Starling.

I’ve often found that I dislike branding changes initially and then they grow on me as time goes on. Certainly I felt that about nationwide when they rebranded but I quite like it now.

If they were called ‘Swan’ or ‘Snake’ I might get it.

It’s not awful awful, I’ve seen worse. Just a bit meh.

And, purple RIP.

Smacks of a bit of desperation

Desperate for what though :joy:

Any attention or customers

I guess I am the minority but I think it looks good…

In forum’s like this, and also generally online, people will always be much more vocal in saying when they’re upset or think something is bad rather than if they think it’s ok or inoffensive.

I can see the link between the old and new branding. It’s a refresh rather than a complete ‘chuck it all out and start again’ which some other companies have done (didn’t First Direct try something with a finger print before they scrapped that a few years back?)

I just don’t understand the rebrand.

I’d usually approve if it’s better, I feel this new branding is how it should’ve been when starting, and modernisation came with the current imagery.

Unsure what type of crowd they are going for, young and hip I’d assume but the new, but the old? I’d want professional standards.
