Very tempted to move my joint account spending over to Starling with this announcement, especially because Monzo joint accounts don’t have an overdraft. This means I have to leave money sitting in the account for emergencies not earning interest.
Why would you bother when 5% is available?
Because I need money to pay bills and live. It can’t all be in savings.
Oh my God … 3.25% on current account … tempted to leave Monzo for this
The timing of this is interesting but I wonder if Starling had been planning this for a while. For those who want to earn on all their money in your current account including spaces/pots, you can’t beat it. There is also no limit, unlike when Monzo paid across it’s accounts, it was limited, so if you had more than the limit then it earned no interest unless it is in the savings pot.
There’s an £85k limit
Limit for interest is £5k on Starling.
Chase limit is £500,000. You can pay DD/SO from their savings accounts which pay 4.1%. Only 1% on the current accounts though.
Ok, so it’s £5k, my error. It’s pretty good though.
I do as well, I just transfer over from my instant access saver what I need for the following day. Takes me a couple of minutes the night before. hardly a chore.
Just opened a Kite Space for one of the kids, only to realise you can’t add it Google Pay.
What a waste of time.
Nice idea but then they don’t have access to the app.
Why can’t you just give them the card? Or give it to them when they want to spend their money?
I absolutely could but Google Pay is very handy.
Or I could just give him a tenner and completely defeat the purpose.
The whole point of the Kite Card is that they get an app of their own to manage their money rather than just blindly spending.
We were planning on moving from HyperJar, they’re introducing some small charges and the app isn’t the best but he’s got used to using Google Pay so will probably just stay where we are.
Take a look at rooster. It’s owned by NatWest and if you have a current account it’s free.
You only have a sub if the kid gets a card although it does have Apple Pay just yet they are supposed to be working on it.
I find the whole chores and interest part of the app nice and the card choices for the kids.
I’m not sure I see the logic, card or Google pay, it’s effectively the same. The only difference is you need a card to pay or a phone.
They are still in control and you can still see how they’re using the card and control whether it’s active or not.
Revolut <18.
It’s personal preference.
