Why is the above bank still called the Co-op anyway? I could understand when it was owned by the Co-op however that’s all it was, owned by one and not actually one itself. Now even that incredibly thin excuse has gone…
I do too, I have no evidence either way, but feels like a limited innovation gap for banks to grow their base currently, and who has any idea what Chase will decide to do next
I think that Chase is probably more of a threat to Starling than to Monzo. Chase is positioned where Starling is - digital banking services for the masses, rather than the younger appeal of Monzo with social features and differentiation through Plus (connected accounts, Trends etc).
That said, Anne is a banker at heart and I’m sure if the warning lights start to flash at Starling HQ she’ll have some buttons to press. And the Starling app is still an order of magnitude better than Chase’s, with functions they don’t have (cheque imaging anyone).
Competition is good. Keen to see what happens. (Although I’ve half an eyebrow raised at JP Morgan coming in and making an extended loss to buy the market and drive competitors out of business).
Yup, this is my working hypothesis too, the financial clout to rapidly build up a strong architectural roadmap & pipeline with which to ship features out via at pace, something I doubt either Starling or Monzo have…
I’ve contacted customer services and pointed it out but nothing has changed this one even comes up on the printed statement as the same as shown on screen
