✨ Spring cleaning: making it easier to manage your account & see Pots payments

Edam it, you’re right

It’d be a bad queso missed opportunities if they didn’t.

I took it to mean that if they are restricted to what’s in the pot, then they are more like standalone accounts?

Then in theory you’d be able to spend anywhere?

Should be same as Bills pot - gets deducted from pot unless:

  • Full amount not available from assigned Pot = take what is available in assigned pot and remainder from account
  • Nothing available from assigned Pot = take amount from account
  • Partial payment available from account, take it and warn of shortfall* (“top up the balance today or else”)
  • Nothing available from account = warn of shortfall* (“top it all up today or else”)

*If there’s a shortfall and you have an overdraft then it’s taken from that and you pay dearly
*If there’s a shortfall and you have no overdraft then TS will rain down all the fire on you and you’re out

I’d like some Ritz crackers and chutney to go with  , thank you

I am a @davidwalton fan and I endorse this message:

Would you expect an overdraft to apply across all Pots in this example, assuming (as implied by the survey) that there won’t be the ping pong of money out of bills pots then out of the main account for direct debits any more?

I particularly commend this bit:

Firm but fair

I’ve been waiting to hear from TS about his strategic direction. I wasn’t expecting ‘rain down all the fire’, but I’ll see if I can get on board.

Wouldn’t that defeat the purpose of having a virtual card linked to a pot for the purpose of making sure they can’t take more money than you’ve budgeted for?

It’s a bit different to direct debits (IMO) because under the guarantee scheme any company must give you advance notice of the amount they’ll be debiting, and you’re covered under the direct debit guarantee for an immediate refund (via a direct debit indemnity) if they collect a different amount. That doesn’t apply to card payments, as you’d have to give them the usual 14 days to resolve it with you, then potentially wait up to 3 months for a chargeback.

Caveat, I have no idea what the team are working on - just basing my answers on the survey :joy:

A good question, but this is the same as the current service where Virtual Cards are funded by your main account - if they take more, you’ve got less in your main account than you planned to have.

Why not configurable pot types? Bills to take from main account if there’s a shortfall in the pot, Savings to not do so. Allows for other valid use cases to be added.

Has anyone who voted no in this poll since got the new tabs?

Or anyone else who has only just had it rolled out to them?

You should have made that a poll

Yes it’s a slow roll out. The details are in the first post

I’ve got it now
To me it makes sense to have the three blue ‘buttons’ in the manage tab as well.
Would be cleaner.

Just re-read this from the original post.
Happy they’ll be going!

I’ve just got it. Significant improvement in my opinion. Declutters the UI and improves ease of finding account/pot management information, standardises interaction across accounts and pots and makes room for new features. Great work monzo team :+1:
