Special purpose account numbers

I know there’s been some talk about having multiple debit card numbers for different purposes - online-only, etc.

Has there been any talk about having multiple account numbers on the same account, with different restrictions on each account number? For example, a ‘receive money only’ account number to hand out to people who want to send Faster Payments to me and which can’t be used to set up direct debits would be very handy.

Can anyone think of any use cases for more than two account numbers on an account? Or is ‘receive money only’ and ‘send and receive’ the only useful distinction?

I believe multiple account numbers was given as the design reason for not having the account details printed on the debit card

Looks like :monzo: Monzo are having thoughts around this area already.

Certainly possible - not something we’ve had the chance to take a look at properly yet :slightly_smiling_face:

A separate account number for online transactions only could be good. There’s been lots of discussion around virtual cards for this same purpose here

Tell you what I’d pay for, a special account number! What about 00000007

How would you know if a transaction (presumably a direct debit, because that’s the only thing that uses an account number to take money out of your account) is online?
