Another own goal for Tado, moving and was looking to put something smart in (mainly as we have such a varied week to week can turn the heating off when no one is in)
Tado seem to be firmly in their enshittification phase at the moment. Iām keeping all their devices for now. When I eventually move house I was planning to take it all with me, but I think Iāll be leaving all the kit here now for the next people who live here to deal with.
Iāve been using Netatmo for eight years now, and Iāve only had one issue with the ink screen. I had to replace it, which cost Ā£10 from AliExpress.
Worth mentioning this is only relevant for those who want to use Tado for both boiler control and radiator control (the feature that enables the radiator TRVs to request heat from the boiler controller is now paywalled for new installations). For those who only use one or the other there is no change. Also doesnāt affect existing installations (pre 1 Oct) when new devices are added to that installation. I know this is explained in the linked thread, but not everyone will read through it.
Happy with our tado install so far - but yes, we do subscribe to the extraās. Geofencing is a biggie as tado doesnāt have presence sensing like the Nest did. But Geofencing works brilliantly for us
No TRVās yet, going to monitor itās behaviour without them for a winter and then decide to invest in them or not.
Iāve achieved this in the past via Home Assistant. But Iām finding recently the Home Assistant Integration is super buggy for me and Tado keeps logging me out! Theyāve introduced new API limits too, although Iām yet to see the impact this has on my install (the logouts started long before the API limits).
Most likely Iāll just end up s*cking up the Ā£3.99/month for the subscription for the few months of the year I need heating. Itās such an insignificant cost for me, but itās more the principle of having to pay for something that was available for free when I bought the product that frustrates me.
There are a few of the āAIā assist features that I wouldnāt mind having - and I suppose could well pay for themselves if I subscribed for a few months every winter.
A really smart thermostat company would crunch the numbers for me and tell me how much more than my subscription fee Iād save on my heating bill, if only I subscribedā¦
I can only add manually also. Although itās not much use with the Octopus Agile tariff - itās calculating sky-high Cost figures! Hopefully this becomes more accurate over time with more manually-inputted consumption numbersā¦
