Tado seem to be firmly in their enshittification phase at the moment. I’m keeping all their devices for now. When I eventually move house I was planning to take it all with me, but I think I’ll be leaving all the kit here now for the next people who live here to deal with.
I’ve been using Netatmo for eight years now, and I’ve only had one issue with the ink screen. I had to replace it, which cost £10 from AliExpress.
Worth mentioning this is only relevant for those who want to use Tado for both boiler control and radiator control (the feature that enables the radiator TRVs to request heat from the boiler controller is now paywalled for new installations). For those who only use one or the other there is no change. Also doesn’t affect existing installations (pre 1 Oct) when new devices are added to that installation. I know this is explained in the linked thread, but not everyone will read through it.
Happy with our tado install so far - but yes, we do subscribe to the extra’s. Geofencing is a biggie as tado doesn’t have presence sensing like the Nest did. But Geofencing works brilliantly for us
No TRV’s yet, going to monitor it’s behaviour without them for a winter and then decide to invest in them or not.
I’ve achieved this in the past via Home Assistant. But I’m finding recently the Home Assistant Integration is super buggy for me and Tado keeps logging me out! They’ve introduced new API limits too, although I’m yet to see the impact this has on my install (the logouts started long before the API limits).
Most likely I’ll just end up s*cking up the £3.99/month for the subscription for the few months of the year I need heating. It’s such an insignificant cost for me, but it’s more the principle of having to pay for something that was available for free when I bought the product that frustrates me.
Ugh, I really need to stop using this forum.
There are a few of the ‘AI’ assist features that I wouldn’t mind having - and I suppose could well pay for themselves if I subscribed for a few months every winter.
A really smart thermostat company would crunch the numbers for me and tell me how much more than my subscription fee I’d save on my heating bill, if only I subscribed…
Does anyone know how to sync gas and energy tariffs to Energy IQ in Tado? I can only see a manual option to add.
I can only add manually also. Although it’s not much use with the Octopus Agile tariff - it’s calculating sky-high Cost figures! Hopefully this becomes more accurate over time with more manually-inputted consumption numbers…
….. they’ve now backtracked and this feature (which they call room link) is back to being free for all: link to relevant Reddit comment.
Second time they have tried this though with the original pay to use app and now this
Faith is gone, and I wouldn’t recommend them going forward.

the fact that Tado are offering a free year of AI Assist suggests to me they’ve not been having much uptake on it. Unfortunately whenever I try to claim the offer, I get an error message.
