But any lock can be compromised whether by hacker, or by breaking down your door. A smart lock is not something to use as a burglar alarm and rely on for all security needs.
Ordinary lock is even simpler, buy set of lockpicks and after day or two you will open yourself every lock in 30min. Professional will do it in 5 minutes. When you buy certified locks, there is no category of lock what will not be opened, but the best one says it will hold 10 minutes or so (lock costing over 1000)
Most consumer tech devices can be. Your smartphone, your laptop, your router…
Whatever you do, don’t watch Mr.Robot!
If you want to see how it is done, I can recommend this youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCm9K6rby98W8JigLoZOh6FQ
Don’t connect them to a smart speaker.
Burglar walks down the street shouting into every letterbox “Alexa, open the front door!”
Thats a HUGE deal! thanks for the tip!
Whats wrong with a key?
It’s yet another thing to carry & potentially lose. Personally I only carry my phone & keys but would love to be able to get rid of the keys too.
Key box?
I have a lot of smart things and I’m automating more and more but this is one thing I want to leave in a low-tech place.
If my lights/sockets/blinds don’t do as they should, it’s an easy manual override and I’m not locked outside in the rain because of it!
Key boxes are inconvenient and most of them are insecure and can be cracked much easier than a conventional lock.
This is definitely an important thing. If you’re considering smart locks make sure it can work locally without any Internet connection otherwise it’s just a matter of time before a cloud outage or “our incredible journey” leaves you locked out.
A device that never runs out of power; never goes out of date; can be duplicated or replaced cheaply; and can’t be killed off by Google when they get a bit bored. The key is the future!
Keys are so 1993

Have you ever tried this before or seen this. Its something i might be considering in the near future:
Yeah, see the 5th post in this topic
Hope they’re better then they used to be. The Yale auto locks had the highest failure rate of all the locks we sold at at an old job.
And we sold a lot of locks.
I am considering the nest Yale because I am fully in the Nest ecosystem.
However I am also considering August.
Slides over existing deadbolts.
I experienced an August lock in the US and it was very good. If they could be applied to my UK lock-types, I’d probably use them.
