As far as I’m aware with Now TV you get not as much box sets or movies and not the BBC channels or some live TV I think
I dont know, I haven’y used or even looked at Now in a very very long time. I’d assume if it’s similar then they’ll probably start to phase it out
But then I’d feel like people just would not bother with Sky Stream if they got rid of Now considering it is expensive, especially with the “set-up” fee, despite it literally just being posted to you.
Yh, I’m about to chase a channel in my wall to run the satellite cables in this weekend to the 2tb Sky Q box which is hidden on the wall behind the tv, might have to have a chat with the other half now to see if we’re likely to change to this.
I think this review shows the differences if you ignore the bits about the actual tv. I know the review is Glass vs Now, but it looks like Glass and Stream are the same thing software wise so still applicable
Sky Glass vs NOW: What’s the difference between the services? (trustedreviews.com)
Which still makes me question, what is the point of Sky Stream? Most people won’t need Freeview channels in Now as they will have other ways of accessing them. Most people also won’t care about all the streaming services being shown in one place. Now might have fewer channels and boxsets, but most of the big shows from the past few months is there for a much cheaper and price and without the need for a new device.
It might just be me, but I still can’t see why anyone would go for Sky Stream when Now exists.
I might be missing something but I just looked at Now and after the first 3 months it’s £29.97 a month as long as you only want two services? So part from the pointless set up fee, Stream is cheaper no?
It depends what memberships you get.
If you just want TV, you can just pay £9.99 a month. Just want cinema, just pay £9.99 a month.
They also love throwing special offers at you so I’ve never actually paid those prices. Cheapest I’ve had is £1 a month and I’ve had that a few times.
I suspect the bigger, long term, question now is - how long will NowTV continue now that Sky have launched Sky Stream?
NowTV was originally launched as a standalone, lower spec’d, ‘value brand’, service while Sky waited for internet services to mature. It was a ‘stop gap’ option for people who couldn’t get a Sky dish for reasons to support the TV they wanted in the place they wanted, or wanted Sky TV channels on a phone/tablet or games console.
With Sky also moving to make Sky Go more generally available on other devices is it really worth them continue to develop 2 different platforms when they can rationalise and make it easier to upsell?
NowTV doesn’t really have any brand loyalty. I wouldn’t be surprised if over the next 18 months we start to see a shift of ‘NowTV’ to ‘NowTV from Sky Stream’ to ‘Sky Stream NowTV’ to ‘Sky Stream’. Sky have already discontinued their own NowTV streaming sticks - so you can’t buy that anymore.
Sky already did this with Now partially, it was a Now TV box with an aerial input, we had one, and it was excellent with all the apps built in. I guess as it had an aerial it wasn’t the sky vision of no cables etc, but it was great.
Cannot see the appeal of stream but I am not the target market.
With sky stream, as all over the internet, can you get whole home and use the second puck at a different address?
I know this isnt sky glass but its kinda similar…
Sky launched a streaming box today that looks really compact and no dish required!
We’ve discussed this above if you want to have a quick look
Oh yeah my bad ![]()
My initial experience of trying to switch from Q to pucks - Sky seems to be making it slightly difficult to get one, or more, Sky Stream puck(s) when you’re already on Sky Q. More digging needed ![]()
Does sky stream let you fast forward and rewind on Freeview channels as well?
Mine will be arriving tomorrow, I’ll give it a test and let you know.
Looking at the Sky forum, it appears that if you are in an 18-month Sky Q contract, Sky are letting you switch from this to a monthly Sky Stream contract. Even customers who have only just taken out Sky Q are managing to do this.
Might be worth bearing in mind given the cost of living increase.
Also, you can effectively trial Sky Stream for 31 days. Sky will put your Sky Q on hold so that you can resume if you don’t find Stream suitable.
I think I’d prefer Sky to make an Apple TV app available before I’d consider moving from Sky Q, though.
