Serious speed issues with ID Mobile

I think this very much depends on location. I laugh at my partner’s very poor Three signal while I do anything I want with my very superior EE connection.

We often fall out about it. But she got a Galaxy Fold 4 for about twenty quid a month less so it’s swings and roundabouts.

In my area EE is far superior. How are you getting on with Lycamobile? I’m about to go sim-only and this is looking like the way to go.

I’ve only tested it at home so far but the speeds are very very good compared to iD. Easily getting between 50mb to 110mb down and about 20 up.
Signal seems similar but Lyca tends to be higher overall. Funny thing is it actually says “EE” in the corner of my phone rather than Lyca

Only thing is that the ping seems higher than iD in the evenings .

I’ll report back once I’ve tried it out and about

Just to mention the deal I’m on is 15GB per month for £2.50 per month for 3 months then £6.70 after that. No contract and no SIM card either, I went for eSIM

What’s not great about that?

Decent down and up, ping pretty good.

Yeah, that’ll do me.

Well, I’m gonna use one of the kids accounts as a tester next week when their contract expires, mine isn’t due until December.

USwitch have a deal just now. £12 for 200GB.

I mean compared to 5G or home broadband.

Isn’t that 5G? My EE is capped at 100Mb anyway.

Strange that. On Lyca earlier in the city centre I was getting between 100 and 200mb down. Maybe Lyca don’t have a cap ?

There is a faster EE plan but the capped one is slightly cheaper.

No its 4G and in a residential area.

So far so good with Lyca. Signal is always good and had no issues with their 4G at all.
I only use basic features such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Email, Web browsing whilst out and about with no issues.

If you are looking to do gaming whilst tethering a Lyca 4G service then I’d advise against it as the ping can be very high in the evening ( where I am anyway )
The speeds however are very impressive and much much better than iD.
So thumbs up from me, in regards to overall coverage and ease of setting up an eSim.
Prices are very good too, £2.50 per month for the first three, then £7 per month afterwards ( 15GB of Data but plenty of options for bolt ons etc, also no contract! )

Glad to hear it. I bit the bullet and ordered two SIM cards. I’ll get to play with them when I get home tonight.

For the record it’s always worth looking at uSwitch. They do exclusive tariffs that are better than those on the Lyca website.

Yep that’s where I got the deal from

The PAC switching form is a nightmare, not clear at all, had to Google other people’s experiences to see how to fill it in. Fingers crossed.

Speeds are great. Even in a non-5g phone that I had lying around I’m getting 200Mb download which is double my capped EE speeds on 5g. I’ll test 5g once the port has completed and THE SIM is living in the correct phone.

One thing I see is that it’s showing in account as a PAYG SIM, I’m hoping that corrects itself, but I guess it doesn’t really matter.

Famous last words, but - so far so good.

Lyca sims are payg, unless explicitly entered into a contract including a credit check, otherwise it’s a rolling bundle, like Smarty or Giffgaff etc, they’re also payg.

Cheers, I suppose it doesn’t matter from point of use. And I’m defo on the right tariff so happy days.
