This, times ten thousand. Email is a far bigger security concern to me than a banking app.
A chain is only as secure as the weakest link. And thatās email in our current society - get someones email and you can basically reset everything
Danny, what if someone grabs your phone whilst youāre using it?
Same āwhat ifā could be applied to your wallet, contactless card, watchā¦
But unlike my watch and wallet, my Monzo account might have a large balance on it.
The transfer is thankfully protected by my pin, however if the attacker could find my date of birth (Quite likely if they have my smartphone) then they can easily recover it a few minutes via the chat.
My watch would obviously be stolen, but my contactless card is protect by a transaction limit. They canāt spend Ā£1000ās in 1 transaction
Why are we adding friction to everyday life for one in a million edge cases?
Life has some risks.
I donāt understand why the Monzo community is against any form of security.
Having your phone snatched whilst unlocked is not a 1 in a milliion edge case.
On iOS I need either a PIN or TouchID to authorise any transaction and no-one has suggested taking that away. Thatās hardly āagainst any form of securityā. A number are against additional security, however.
(Sorry, I donāt know the state of play on Android)
It is not a matter of making payments it is a matter of access to your transaction history and personal data
Iām not against additional security if some need that blanket. Iām against enforced additional security.
Point taken. I was thinking financial risk only although my point stands that there is no-one pushing āno security at allā which is what the poster was suggesting.
A separate password to reset or to access your pin would hardly inconvenience anyone.
The fact I can do so with just my date of birth is a bit of a joke.
How would your attacker know your date of birth?
Iām against enforced additional security.
And proponents of the additional security have often said they would be happy for it to be optional in settingsā¦but they continue to be opposed
If they have access to your phone, I wouldnāt be surprised if that data was lying around somewhere.
I have pretty much everything I can think of on my phone.
Social media, old messages, cloud files, emails, pictures.
Itās incumbent upon us to oppose evil wherever we see itā¦
Haha, good luck to anyone who uses my social media date of birth!
I have always lied except to those companies that will be checking it against my credit reference.
Go on the Facebook mobile site, it automatically logs in as you, go to your user page, about me.
Assuming you have Facebook anyway.

My date of birth isnāt on thereā¦
I only access facebook through a container on firefox. Not having that abomination tracking my every move.
Plus, I lied to them.
