This is good advice, but one of the drivers for me to stop using cash where possible is a video I saw of an ATM inside a branch of Barclays (an ATM I used to use). Someone was robbed as the cash came out of the machine, and from the time the cash appeared to the time the robber was out of the bank was less than 2 seconds.
Robber or thief?
Ah, I see. You are a pedant like me.
I guess most people would use a short for lettered word.
Yes. My apologies.
For or four letter word?
Fantastic. We’re all pedants together.
Damn that smell chucker
That was an urban myth. And when you think about it, you’d realise it would never work - say your PIN was 1881. Now try having an ATM figure out if you’ve put that in backwards or not.
With bunq you can have two PIN on your card, and link them to different accounts. Then one PIN can link to an account with most of your money in the other PIN to an account with just a tenner in
How about instead of backwards PIN, since that won’t work, you enter the last/first 4 digits of your card number. You wouldn’t have to remember it so it’s better than having two PINs.
I don’t think the gun point scenario is feasible or if it’s a good choice to do this then. But this would be more useful when you wish to freeze your card/ account without the app/phone.
Sounds like a good idea too. Anything to help get out of handing your money to the strangers. I do preferthe idea of entering a code that would show a zero or low balance, perhaps even blocking the main account as well.
While Mastercard specs or rule book do allow for a second PIN for a second account there is No provision for a duress PIN not linked to an account that would display a fake minimal or zero balance, nor one that would notify Police.
Such changes would necessitate all regional Mastercard organizations subscribing to a new global spec or rule book, ATM reprogrammed and potentially having new hardware or additional connectivity incorporated, and your bank agreeing to the idea and reissuing cards with updated software in the chip.
It just isn’t going to happen.
Even if it did happen then muggers would know about the scheme and while you try to protect your few hundred quid attack, shoot or stab you for refusing to comply with their demands, and be long gone before PC Plod ever turns up on scene. Surely your life is worth more than that? That is not even an amount sufficient to pay for the funeral!
I think you have really compulsive thoughts
Meaning…???
You are giving them too much credit. No pun intended
I think you are really judgemental
