I thought it would be good if optionally we were able to save the current GPS location with every payment.
This for me would be wonderful, as I’d remember where I was when I spent 40£ at 2am. This doesn’t necessarily mean create a graphical masterpiece to display this data, but more of an addition to the metadata.
This also means later down the line, Monzo could look towards doing some complex analytics on this data and displaying to the user, in-app.
Important to note that this location is provided by the merchant’s terminal (often corrected by Monzo’s database of locations). To the best of my knowledge, GPS from the phone is not used except for security on iOS and when you submit a location correction.
Most of the data is collected from foursquare, twitter and other third parties.
When travelling I’ve found a lot of this data to be incorrect or not found.
Using the iOS app you can submit improvements to Monzo, but right now that feature isn’t available to Android users, but according to the trello roadmap will be released soon.
Anyone know if anything ever came of this/plans to come of this? Seems like a good idea to have a view on the app which shows payments grouped by location. Think it’ll be useful for travelers to see how much they spent in a particular country and could also give insights into spending patterns within a particular region.
