I’ve downloaded the app and am trying to set up an account. I live in the UK but have a non UK mobile number. When I click for an activation code to be sent nothing arrives (have clicked re-send several times).

Your best bet is to email help@monzo.com and they should be able to assist you with this
I’ve done it with my French mobile number.
You should present it like +33701020304
+33 is the France indicator so you should change it with yours
I tried using + or 00 but neither of those worked
It should work providing you enter the full international phone number including the plus country code but excluding any brackets, dots, etc.
