Please help! Rejected!

I am going on holiday this week so I left my application open thinking I could call monzo asking them to pause my application because the card wouldnt come in time when I went on the app it said that they cannot offer me a monzo account even though I had not finished the questions ( I was asked to upload a payslip or employer letter ) I did leave the application open could that have affected it .I have great credit ,no debt well looked after bank accounts with Halifax/barclays I called monzo they told me to email monzo and they will help me I am worried now that have destroyed my credit as I was planning on opening an account with nationwide I wish I didn’t bother opening an online account.could someone help me if there’s any point in emailing them and if the reason is because I didn’t finish the application quick enough ( I left a few days ) I am also worried because I sent my passport via email please could someone help

No bank has to accept you as a customer.

Your credit file won’t be impacted as Monzo only do a soft check unless you apply for flex or overdraft.

Were you using it as a burner account for switch bonuses as you mention nationwide? A lot of work for a few quid.

Move on, enjoy your holiday.

Thank you for your reply I wanted it mainly just to use when travelling rather than using my main accounts. And because I know many friends who use it when travelling.i would like to know the reason but I doubt they will tell you via email

No banks will give you the reason to why you was rejected, just email and see if they can reconsider but as Carlo said, no bank has to accept you as customer regardless of how good your credit score is.

They won’t tell you why.

Chase, Starling are both similar style accounts with fee free spending abroad.

Barclays allow you to open an EUR account allowing you to add funds and spend fee free in Euro countries.

I don’t think banks are actually allowed to tell why you get rejected.

Emailing will get them to do a manual check instead of an automated one, unless they see something major on the rejection.

Do you think the reason could be because I left the application open on the app for a few days instead of completing the questions straight away?

Unlikely.

Never seen it ask someone to provide evidence of pay before/

If you have great credit and zero debts I would also check your credit file to make sure there’s nothing on there you’re unaware of.

Banks don’t have to accept you, but if you have absolutely nothing on your credit report it would be odd to reject.

(This is assuming you’ve told us everything and not left anything out)

I’d just accept it as what it is and move on, and enjoy your holiday. And when you get back, consider chase or starling.

I am yet to see a post on any forum or Reddit like this where something wasn’t left out

Same but I remain… well, I guess I don’t remain anything.

You never know.

They were asking for extra as per your other thread, they had their doubts to start with.

No point worrying, pick another bank.

I have zero debts and a good credit rating.i have lived at the same address for years so I don’t get it Thats why I called them and they advised me to email them. The only thing I can think of was maybe the video wasn’t clear ?i was asked to send my passport via email which I reluctantly did so because I was told it’s not secure to do by a close friend.i was then asked to answer some questions and to provide either a payslip or an employment letter I did leave the application open for a few days ( left it on the backseat ) so to speak .maybe that flagged something ?or my face doesn’t look like my passport ( which would be weird if that’s the reason ) I have emailed them it’s a horrible feeling to be rejected but all I mainly care about is they don’t ruin my credit record.Thank you for your response

Will it affect me getting accepting by another online bank ?as of now I only bank with high street banks

Based on what we know here - you applied and you didn’t get accepted, this won’t ruin your credit score.

The only one thing you can really do is email review@monzo.com. Guessing won’t help and you have to accept you’ll never know the reason for the rejection.

No, it will make zero difference.

But there is a reason they’ve said no. Make sure you’re not lying on your application and double check your credit history.

Don’t worry - they won’t even know that you applied for a Monzo account

They don’t want you as a customer. There is nothing you can do can change this.

There are plenty of other fish banks in the sea :whale:

There’s loads of holiday options. To be honest I don’t even consider my bank when I go to another country - I just imagine I’m home and behave the same. How much money are you hoping to save compared to other accounts on holiday?
