I find the exclusive debate interesting. I think Sony has had the monopoly on single player narrative driven games this gen but with the amount of investment in Xbox Game Studios from Microsoft, I just can’t see that being the same next gen, it will almost certainly be on par if not better.
As an Xbox gamer, It feels like Xbox get an unnecessary amount of criticism these days. It was warranted at the Xbox One announcement, not that the always on, always online stuff ever bothered me personally.
I know it’s only an opinion, but to me and my friends, xbox has superior software, controllers, games(This is definitely a personal preference and unpopular opinion, whilst PS exclusives have looked good, theres only 2 that I wish I could’ve played), Games Pass and most importantly network Infrastructure. Twin that with Project xCloud which is also fantastic. I can’t see why so many people are still tilting towards PS5 over Xbox for next gen so far.
It’s all an opinion, but in all honesty I’m just stoked for next gen in general. The games I sink all my time into are mostly 3rd Party anyway so it doesn’t bother me too much.
For me, over the last couple of years Microsoft have been so much more “For the Players” compared to Sony which i find quite funny.
The next Elder Scrolls is miles off unfortunately, We still have to wait for Starfield from Bethesda which we still have 0 information about before we get any details on Elder Scrolls.
It’s not necessarily about exclusives but also prioritisation.
For example - Yakuza / RGG Studio.
If you bought a PS4 today, you could play:
Yakuza 0
Yakuza Kiwami
Yakuza Kiwami 2
Yakuza 3,4 and 5 remastered.
Yakuza 6
Judgment (Yakuza spin off set in the same city)!
Fist Of The North Star (Manga adaptation built on Yakuza engine)
With the exception of the remastered set, these have all been available for 2+ years.
Whereas, on Xbox, you can only play:
Yakuza 0
Yakuza Kiwami
Yakuza Kiwami 2
All of which have been available on PS4 for 5, 4 and 3 years respectively and only just landed on Xbox this year.
And I’m sure there are other studios in similar boats.
To give credit to Microsoft, this appears to be changing. Yakuza 7 is set to launch in the West on PS4 and Xbox One simultaneously. So they’ve obviously put in the resources to make this happen.
But if you’re a fan of an independent franchise, you’re going to go to the place where the most games from that franchise are available.
I’ll be getting a PS5, because it doesn’t seem likely to me that Shenmue 4 would launch on any other platform. And I love Naughty Dog too
Got my Saving Pot sorted (although not much in it atm…)
I’ve been debating whether to get the PlayStation VR, so do we think the current model will be fully functional on PS5, or is it likely they’ll release a newer, more updated headset with launch?!
Looks like the differences are more complicated than just xbox has more teraflops and ps5 more than makes up for it in some areas. This video on the topic is interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4higSVRZlkA I think early games may see better visuals on xbox, but as developers learn the to handle boost speeds and faster load in of assets from the faster ps5 storage we’ll see games look better there.
I’m a big fan of what MS has been doing this gen. Things like backward compatibility, game pass and smart delivery are very consumer friendly and hopefully will put Sony under pressure to fight back.
Does anyone really want another generation where Sony walks it and has the leverage to make shitty decisions like disallowing cross (at least for a while).
I’m so excited about this! Hoping they reveal Horizon Zero Dawn 2 and God of War 2 (might be a bit too early for the latter!). Also really want there to be a new Arkham game, which I know has been rumoured for a while.
My understanding is it was just a games demonstration.
But June 2013 they revealed what the PS4 looked like so timelines match. Would be a great way to generate buzz too as Microsoft has been quiet of late.
I’m really excited for this! I’m in the irritating position of having a little stack of PS4 games I haven’t been able to play at all and not wanting to buy a replacement 4 when the 5 is on the way. This will finally be the reason I update by 12 year old TV too!
Given that inter-generational play is now a thing, I suspect I won’t be upgrading quite as early into the release cycle as I normally do. Unless there are some superb exclusive titles to the next gen console.
