My payment to DVLA was attempted early. No money in account as im paid in two days when its due
Did you check with dvla when they are meant to take their payments?
I havnt rung yet but the date is the third of the month on my monzo app so in curious why itd be taken early? Could the DVLA ask for it early? Thankyou
Possibly.
Direct debit schedules are more an art than a science. Theyâve got weekends to account for, bank holidays, their own internal scheduling systems.
All my direct debits (except 1) are due on the 1st of the month. None have been taken today, one actually went out on Friday.
DVLA take all payments on the first working day of the month.
The date you see will be when the last one was takenâŠ
Vehicle tax Direct Debit payments: Change how often you pay - GOV.UK.
I suggest ensuring you pay it today to ensure your vehicle remains taxed.
And if you struggle to have money available, consider using payments from pots. Store some in there ready for next month then youâre not caught short at the end of your next pay cycle
Everything is in pots, bills etc, but i set them up/transfer in to them each pay day. I am paid tomorrow so would have transfered it all then but it came out before the date it was supposed to so i hadnt transfered yet
Ah thankyou. It shall have to be tomorrow as i am paid then but i will contact them first thing. Previously its always been the third (unless weekend)
Thats great. I meant get your DVLA payment into a pot now, so youâre ahead, ready for next month in case it happens again.
Hello
Have you considered setting one of those pots as a âBills Potâ - this will work for DDâs/SOâs and, if you are a paid customer, payments from a virtual card.
This way even if, for some reason, the payment was taken early the money would come out of the pot to pay it (presuming the pot had sufficient funds etc) and might prevent this from happening in the future.
Be careful with this. You might find this causes challenges around late payments etc, there is no grace period with car tax either so if the payment hasnât been made on the date it is requested, itâll count as an untaxed car etc. The Bills pot also solves this challenge.
Edited to correct
It does work for card payments if youâre a paid customer, attaching a virtual card to the pot.
Iâd forgotten about that! Updated
Like i said i do use pots but im hardly likely to put double in incase a company takes a payment early! If you are able to put twice your bill amount in all good for you but most people dont gave that luxury. As i said it will be paid tomorrow so im sure DVLA wont lock me up
DVLA didnât take it early - they take payments on the first working day of the month.
You will have this problem in future, so please ensure you (a) donât drive if you refuse to pay till the 3rd (b) have enough money to pay for it on the 1st as required.
You only need to double up once then every time you get paid just add money into the pot!
Looked at all my dvla transactions. All on the third unless a weekend and taken the friday before. Never been late with it before
Thing is, if you use a bills pot then you wonât need to put double, itâll take the amount due when it needs and not before/double
Well thatâs up to you, but the car will be showing as untaxed if itâs not been payed, soâŠ
That wasnt the question. I didnt need you to repeat yourself. I have now paid it as soon as my pay has come in. Im sure im not going to rpisob for one day late
