You could go for Monese instead, another FinTech which offers cash deposits at Paypoint and Post Office. Its not free either but App is pretty good.

They do actually have a Free option now as well as a premium option. Their latest tariffs can be found by clicking on the link below
Cash deposits might come to Monzo this year. I am guessing they are going to follow Monese model because @anon91821566 said cost will be passed onā¦

Do Starling charge?
They announced they have agreed to go ahead with a Post Office service but if any charges for that service, and I would assume there would be, they are not likely to announce it until nearer the launch.
At the moment they have deposits thru NatWest which is free.
Is that still as problematic as people claimed with NatWest staff not knowing what to do?
It depends what you say and what branch you go to. I have used NatWest for both Starling and Handelsbanken deposits at a few branches and in many cases staff are well trained on agency banking. In some branches the staff seem poorly trained and have not read their branch manual which contains all the instructions for every agency banking arrangement they have. So I find sometimes you need to talk to them like they are an idiot, and explain you want to deposit money in to this account under the agency banking agreement they have with NatWest āand if you need any help it explains what to do in the branch manualā.
It is no worse than the Post Office. Every bank that signs up to the Post Office services seems to have different rules and different methods. Some need you to enter your card in the reader and others they need to swipe the card. Some allow deposits with a paying in slip others without. Some allow deposits with an envelope others without. Some allow cash and cheques, others just cash or just cheques. Metro launched initially with a service just for their business customers and not personal customers due to the crazy prices the Post Office charge. Some banks only allow use of the Post Office counter service in some parts of the UK and not others. Post Office staff in some branches seem well trained and efficient and in other branches they donāt know what they are doing. Some tell you you canāt use the service when you can, or conversely suggest you may be able to use the service when you canāt. Others are pressing the wrong buttons on their terminal and having problems finding the options they need. I often give up and go and try another branch.
Overall, be it NatWest or Post Office, there are good branches with good staff where it all goes smoothly and they ask no questions and immediately know what to do, and others where you wouldnāt trust them to do something simple like post a letter (ironic in the case of a post office) as they seem clueless. Then you just need to complain to NatWest or the Post Office and hope at some point they send the staff for extra training.
Not all card deposits at the Post Office are instant, its purely down to the contract between them and the bank, for example I can use a Barclays card chip and pin and it takes hours to credit, I can use a LLoyds and it will not appear until the next day, so it is not down to chip and pin or paying in slip, it is purely down to the arrangement a bank has.
Instant deposits generally cost more, so most banks will not pay for that arrangement. As more people are moving away from using the Post Office its possible Monzo will get a good deal though which would allow instant deposits.
The reason instant deposits cost more, is actually due to how the Post Office system Horizon works, it live processes things through the Post Office system where needed, many transactions are not live, where as with instant deposits it has to process it twice, which technically is a more complicated process. Non-live deposits are batch processed, not instantly processed.
It was 5 minutes for me with Barclays
Maybe different types of Post Office, e.g. Crown and Sub, have different timescales?
Itās strange. This is one in the corner of a shop. Their terminals are only about a year old so maybe that has something to do with it
Iād use this service with Lloyds but you have to order a paying in book and thatās effort. Not what I pay in cash often maybe 2 or 3 times a year.
Not viable for Monzo, but used one of these today, very convenient.
Barclays have some of those in some branches, and the new flagship Halifax branch has those kind of machines. I think they are much more mainstream in Japan
I use Monzo.me or bank transfer, its so quick and easy.
Next month my benefit will be coming straight into my Monzo so will have no need to do the above.
When are you going to allow members to be able to to pay money into a account from any posts office instead of a bank transfer
When are you going to let members to pay money in their account from a posts office
@anon65820812 moved your post over to the thread where thereās been lots of discussion around cash and your monzo account
There has also been a lot of discussion about it in the Cash deposits feedback thread.
The rumour is that there may be a fee to deposit so I would use a legacy account to deposit for free and transfer it over!
