Pay at Pump Limit

No, but articles I read said that was the issue and why they now ring-fence £99 while you fill up.

The other idea that popped up lots the previous years was being able to enter what you had filled up with to help with budgeting.

From memory the two key issues were: a lot of pump terminals couldn’t be upgraded they needed replacing which has a big cost factor.

Which leads onto the second issue is that the £99 holding payments weren’t being updated to the final amount minutes after the pump had finished

This meant people filling up multiple times a week having multiple £99 held on their bank account for many days and were potentially stuck for other payments.

For everyone living paycheck to paycheck it obviously impacted massively.

so I’m not sure what articles but I think it was the opposite issue at least in my experience. People would fill up on the £1 auth, then thinking they had £40 in their account go and do their shopping.

Then the PAP transaction came through putting them into unarranged overdraft - at most banks that means they got charged a fee, and then potentially chased, plus a mark on their credit rating. It caused a lot of confusion and complaints.

None of these methods stop actual thieves very well, who I’ve seen escape with tens of thousands of pounds of fuel, let alone £99!
